The Mummy 4 To Have a Family Reunion After All as Major Star Joins Cast

Universal Pictures is bringing back the main cast of The Mummy 4. Following the exciting news that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reprise their roles, the studio has now confirmed another original actor will also be joining the film.

John Hannah to reprise his role as Jonathan in The Mummy 4

John Hannah is set to reprise his role as Jonathan Carnahan in the upcoming fourth ‘Mummy’ film, bringing him back together with stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz for the first time in over two decades. Hannah has been in all three previous ‘Mummy’ movies, playing Evelyn Carnahan’s witty and somewhat dishonest brother. This new installment will ignore the events of the 2008 film and continue the story directly after the first two movies, released in 1999 and 2001.

In the first few “Mummy” movies, Jonathan was Evelyn’s brother. He was a somewhat reckless thief who kicked off the story by stealing a map from the adventurer Rick O’Connell. Throughout the series, Jonathan kept getting pulled into dangerous, supernatural situations, but he always managed to land on his feet.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directors behind the film Ready or Not, are directing this new movie. David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay.

The fourth Mummy movie is planned to come out on May 19, 2028, and filming is expected to start this fall in London and Morocco. While details about the story are still secret, fans can revisit the series soon. To mark the 25th anniversary of the second film, Universal is bringing The Mummy Returns back to cinemas on March 27.

As a huge fan of the originals, I’m really excited to see Sean Daniel back as producer – he did such a great job on the first films with James Jacks. And now he’s teamed up with some new, talented folks from Radio Silence – William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein – through their production company, Project X Entertainment. It’s a good mix of experience and fresh ideas, and I’m optimistic about where they’ll take the story.
