Liquid Death released a humorous new video promoting their limited-edition water, jokingly suggesting students can ‘drink textbooks’ to help them succeed in college.
Liquid Death’s new ad campaign, called “Liquid Death Will Help You Legally Cheat Through College,” is based on the popular online idea that water can ‘remember’ things. The funny ad shows Liquid Death claiming they used Amazon Alexas to ‘teach’ their canned water by having the devices read college textbooks into the water.
They state that the outcome is “Certified Smarter Water,” which they believe enhances brain function when you drink it.
Liquid Death is known for its wild and creative advertising. They’ve done everything from hosting metal shows to partnering with celebrities. Their newest campaign is a playful take on college life, featuring humorous fake testimonials about things students do – like acing tests, ditching class, and even pretending their water cans can soak up entire lectures.
Drink your way through exams with Liquid Death
The video features students jokingly attributing their success to unusual methods. One pretends to say, “I can now get into medical school just by drinking water, thanks to Liquid Death,” while another jokes, “The key to college is waking up, studying until you’re sick, and repeating the process – it’s that easy!”
Liquid Death is playfully advertising a limited-edition “Certified Smarter Water,” claiming you can even “program” the cans with information using Alexa. While it’s all a joke, the ad directs people to Amazon to purchase these novelty packs.
You can’t actually buy “Certified Smart Water.” However, Liquid Death provides instructions on how to use an Amazon Alexa to essentially turn any of their flavored water into something that acts like smart water.
The idea that “water has memory” – meaning it can somehow retain information about things that were once dissolved in it – started with research in the 1980s by French scientist Jacques Benveniste. While his findings were quickly proven incorrect, the concept continued to circulate, especially in alternative wellness communities, and more recently became a popular internet meme.
Liquid Death playfully uses the idea of scientifically unproven concepts to create satire, joking that if water could actually ‘remember’ things, it would be the perfect study aid for students.
