Riverdale's Camila Mendes Cast As Teela In Masters Of The Universe Movie

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for nostalgia and pop culture references, I must admit my heart skipped a beat upon hearing the news of Camila Mendes being cast as Teela in the Masters of the Universe reboot. With her impressive resume, spanning from Riverdale to Do Revenge on Netflix and Palm Springs on Hulu, it’s clear that she has the acting chops to bring this iconic character to life.

The Masters of the Universe live-action reboot movie has made another stride forward, with Camila Mendes securing the role of Teela. In the Masters of the Universe universe, Teela is the adopted daughter of the Sorceress and the main heroine. She’s also the Captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard, and is set to be Prince Adam/He-Man’s love interest, a part that Nicholas Galitzine will play.

The casting of Mendes was initially mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter. She is recognized for portraying Veronica Lodge over a period of seven seasons in Riverdale, a series that drew inspiration from the Archie Comics characters. Previously, Prime Video had chosen Mendes to star in two romantic comedies, Upgraded and Música. Besides these roles, she has been seen in Do Revenge on Netflix and Palm Springs on Hulu.

The popular series “Masters of the Universe” originated from Mattel’s toyline introduced in 1982, which led to several animated shows. In 1987, a live-action version hit theaters with Dolph Lundgren portraying He-Man, Chelsea Field as Teela, and Frank Langella as the villainous Skeletor. The latest iteration of this franchise was initially planned by Sony and Netflix but is now being produced by Amazon MGM Studios for a big-screen premiere.

Travis Knight serves as the director for the upcoming movie, which was written by Chris Butler. In partnership with Mattel Films and Amazon MGM Studios, the production company for Masters of the Universe is a joint effort. The film is set to be released in theaters on June 5th, 2026.
