As a movie enthusiast with a special affinity for science fiction and a particular fondness for the Alien franchise, I must say, the upcoming digital release of “Alien: Romulus” score by Benjamin Wallfisch has me absolutely thrilled! The fact that this talented composer has taken inspiration from Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, and Marc Streitenfeld’s iconic works while still managing to create something fresh is truly intriguing.
Digital platforms will soon feature the music score for “Alien: Romulus”, with a physical version hitting the shelves in November.
The digital release of the music scored by Benjamin Wallfisch for the Fede Álvarez film, bridging the gap between Ridley Scott’s “Alien” (1979) and James Cameron’s “Aliens” (1986), is set for August 16. A Golden Globe and Grammy nominee, Wallfisch drew inspiration from Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner‘s iconic scores for the original films, as well as Marc Streitenfeld’s music from Ridley Scott’s 2012 prequel “Prometheus.”
For the digital version, you’ll find a total of 20 musical cues. The vinyl variant, slated for release by Mutant on November 15, showcases unique artwork and six extra tracks as bonuses. You can pre-order it starting this coming Friday, August 16. Here’s a sneak peek at the cover art:
Having spent several years as a composer for film and television, I have had the privilege of working on some truly iconic franchises like “Annabelle: Creation,” “Blade Runner 2049,” and “Twisters.” This experience has allowed me to delve deep into the rich themes of these classic series, and breathe new life into them for contemporary audiences. My passion for the original films makes each project a joy to work on, as I strive to honor their musical legacy while adding my own unique touch through a fusion of electronic and traditional orchestral elements. In immersing myself in the works of composers like Horner and Goldsmith, I aim to capture the essence of what came before, while creating something fresh and exciting for fans to enjoy.
“The movie’s score effectively mirrors its intricate characters and the unsettling, suspenseful ambiance of outer space, skillfully combining modern methods with the classic music that defines the ‘Alien’ franchise.”
Compiled below is a sampler of three cues from Wallfisch’s score:
Before you watch “Alien: Romulus” for the first time, it might be wise to avoid reading too much into the track names that come with the digital artwork. Luckily, fans of the franchise won’t have a long wait as “Alien: Romulus” hits theaters nationwide on August 16.
