As a dedicated fan, I find myself deeply invested in the creative journey of Bill Lawrence, the brilliant mind behind some of my favorite TV shows like Scrubs, Cougar Town, Shrinking, and the phenomenal Ted Lasso. His latest project, Bad Monkey, starring Vince Vaughn, is yet another testament to his storytelling prowess.
Bill Lawrence, the brain behind Scrubs, Cougar Town, and the latest sensation Shrinking, along with Ted Lasso, is currently engaged in his new Apple TV+ series titled Bad Monkey. This show features Vince Vaughn in the lead role, portraying a former Miami cop who’s transitioned to a health inspector in the Florida Keys but yearns for a return to police work.
Regardless of discussing Bad Monkey, the dialogue often drifts towards Scrubs, another show he co-created that was one of the most successful shows from the early 2000s. Scrubs spanned nine seasons in total, with seven airing on NBC and the remaining two on ABC. There’s a persistent buzz about a potential reunion or revival similar to Frasier and Will & Grace.
Speaking to Variety, Lawrence expresses optimism about making something similar happen, but he acknowledges that business complications could be an obstacle. For instance, Scrubs is a Disney production, and Lawrence is currently tied up with Warner Bros. television. Moreover, even if everyone were available, the original cast members are actively engaged in various ongoing projects.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my continuous admiration for the enduring love for Scrubs. I’m incredibly thankful that this passion has remained vibrant all these years. Perhaps it’s due to the genuine camaraderie between Zach Braff and Donald Faison, evident in their podcast and those T-Mobile commercials. The fact that we don’t really need more of them might be the biggest hurdle for newcomers – everyone involved is already so successful, talented, and downright lovely.
Lawrence maintains a professional alliance with certain of his actors, notably Zach Braff, who received an Emmy nomination for directing an episode of Ted Lasso and also appears as a guest star in the series Bad Monkey.
Although it’s not urgent, the author remains optimistic about future possibilities, recognizing there are many other tasks to be addressed first.
“He mentioned that the business aspect might become complicated, but he remains extremely optimistic. What intrigues him most is the idea of collaborating creatively, rather than just having an excuse for getting together. He doesn’t want the project to be half-hearted. Moreover, it would be fascinating to explore those characters in their advanced years and observe today’s youth in medicine, as it’s a noble profession that deserves recognition, and not many are pursuing it for financial gain.”
