Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, will give several former supporting characters a leading role. The movie boasts a huge cast, uniting various hero teams to battle Victor von Doom. While all these heroes are powerful in their own right, some previously played supporting roles in other Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
The new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, coming to theaters December 18th, will include seven characters who previously appeared as sidekicks in other Marvel Cinematic Universe films and shows. Alongside the main heroes like Shang-Chi, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, these supporting characters will also be crucial to the story.
The list begins with Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, who first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger as a friend and ally to Captain America (Chris Evans). Over time, his character became a villain, then a hero, and he later teamed up with Sam Wilson on several adventures. Now, he’s taking on a leadership role with the Thunderbolts as they face the events of Doomsday.

Like Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, began as a supporting character in the 2014 film Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where audiences first met him as Falcon. Later, in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers passed on the Captain America shield and title to Sam. Now, he’s set to be a leading hero as the Avengers face new challenges in the upcoming Doomsday film.

Danny Ramirez plays Joaquin Torres, a character who’s become a key ally in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first appeared in the 2021 series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and will officially take on the role of the Falcon in the 2025 film Captain America: Brave New World. Torres will team up with Sam Wilson’s Captain America again in the upcoming movie Doomsday.

Florence Pugh joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021 as Yelena Belova, a skilled assassin who teamed up with Natasha Romanoff in the movie Black Widow. Now, Yelena is a member of the New Avengers and is proving herself as a leader while working with a fresh group of heroes.

Letitia Wright first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2018 as Shuri in Black Panther. She played the younger sister of T’Challa, portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman. As Wakanda’s leading expert in technology, Shuri eventually became the Black Panther and took on the responsibility of leading her nation in Doomsday.

In the 2022 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Mabel Cadena played Namora, a key ally to the ruler of Talokan, Namor the Sub-Mariner. As one of Talokan’s strongest warriors, Namora’s appearance in the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday confirmed she will also be featured in that movie.

Joining Namora will be Attuma, a formidable warrior from Talokan, played by Alex Livinalli. As one of Namor’s advisors and a physically imposing fighter, Livinalli has been spotted filming scenes in Bahrain alongside the rest of the cast, confirming his return to the role.

Other Sidekicks Who Could Show Up in Avengers: Doomsday

Although many characters are expected to appear in Doomsday, the movie might include even more supporting characters than we currently know.
Don Cheadle, who has played War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, was surprisingly revealed to be a Skrull imposter in Secret Invasion. With the future of his planned series, Armor Wars, uncertain, and given his close connection to Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, he’d be a logical hero to oppose Doctor Doom.
Hope van Dyne, played by Evangeline Lilly, is another possible candidate for the upcoming movie. She’s worked alongside Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man in previous films, and has suggested she might be in Avengers: Secret Wars, the sequel to Doomsday. Since Rudd is already confirmed to be in the film, it’s likely Lilly could appear with him as well.
Many fans are hoping to see archers in the movie, and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop is a strong possibility. There’s been talk that the Young Avengers could appear, which would make bringing Kate back a good fit, despite the actress being pregnant.
