Peter Alexander Leaves NBC News After 22 Years

Peter Alexander is departing from NBC News after serving for many years as the White House Correspondent and co-host of Saturday’s edition of The Today Show. In a statement on March 28th, he reflected on his 22 years with the network, noting he’s been with NBC longer than he’s been a parent, and has reported from around the globe. He explained his decision to leave stems from a desire to spend more time with his family, as frequent travel – including being away from home for 80 nights in the last seven months and over 220 Friday nights in the last seven years – has taken a toll. He wants to achieve a better work-life balance while his daughters still enjoy spending time with him.

It was really heartwarming to see all the support for Peter after he announced his departure. Savannah Guthrie posted a lovely message saying he was a fantastic colleague and even better friend, and she sent him lots of love. Vicky Nguyen from NBC News Daily chimed in too, celebrating his amazing career and how happy she was to have worked alongside him and learned from him. Everyone just seemed genuinely thrilled for him and wished him all the best for whatever comes next – it was a really nice thing to see!

A particularly noteworthy moment in 2020 for NBC White House Correspondent Alexander came when he asked President Trump, during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, “What do you say to Americans who are scared?” Trump responded by criticizing Alexander, calling him a “terrible reporter” and accusing him of asking a “nasty” question that spread negativity instead of providing answers and hope to the American people.
