As a seasoned gamer with years of immersing myself in the fantastical worlds crafted by developers like Owlcat Games, I must say this latest move by the studio is nothing short of exhilarating! Their proven track record with narrative-driven RPGs like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader has set a high bar for storytelling in the genre.
Renowned CRPG creator Owlcat Games, known for titles like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, has stepped into the publishing industry starting today. Their goal is to assist independent developers worldwide in launching narrative-focused RPGs globally. With Owlcat Games’ impressive track record (save for a few persistent issues with Rogue Trader), this development is welcome news for fans of RPGs and captivating stories.
Initially, Owlcat Studios will release two captivating games: firstly, Rue Valley – a distinctive narrative role-playing game where a man finds himself trapped in a time loop during psychotherapy sessions, reminiscent of Hellblade’s atmosphere. Secondly, Shadow of the Road, an isometric turn-based role-playing game set in an alternate feudal Japan with steampunk and supernatural elements (known as yokai in Japanese). I can hardly wait to join!
Rue Valley, a creation of Emotion Spark Studio located in Serbia, and Shadow of the Road, developed by Another Angle Games hailing from Poland, have been selected for development following Owlcat’s thorough review of more than 50 potential projects.
The games are still in their initial phases, but we’ll have our first glimpse of them at this year’s Gamescom event, scheduled from August 20th to 25th.
Excitedly, I can share that, as a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to announce that Owlcat Games, known for our work on Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, has taken over META Publishing in its entirety. This partnership expansion will see us focusing on gameplay-centric titles with a cooperative twist, building upon past successes like Train Valley series and Biped. Here’s to many more exciting gaming adventures!
Witnessing Owlcat transform from a modestly sized team that included some former Heroes of Might and Magic developers into the over 450-strong studio we see today has been quite remarkable, much like what we saw with the Belgian CRPG developer Larian Studios (though they still have progress to make). Some of you might be unfamiliar with them at this moment, but that was Larian not too far in the past. Therefore, it would be wise to stay attentive for a grand adventure similar to Baldur’s Gate 3 from these creators soon.
