Bowen Yang Reveals a Male ‘SNL’ Host ‘Made Multiple Cast Members Cry Because He Hated the Ideas’ at the Table Read: It Was ‘Terrible’

As a supporter of Bowen Yang, I must say that his resilience and professionalism shine through in every challenge he faces. The story about a male host making multiple cast members cry during a table read is appalling, but it’s heartening to see how Bowen handled the situation with grace and maturity.

On Saturday Night Live, one of its popular figures, Bowen Yang, has disclosed an incident where a male host caused several cast members to shed tears during a table read session for the show’s sketch comedy. This unfortunate event took place due to the host’s displeasure with the ideas presented for his episode. Yang started working on SNL in September 2018.

During an interview on “Watch What Happens Live,” Yang described a host on SNL who, before a table-read on a Wednesday, made several cast members cry due to his intense dislike for their ideas. He went on to say that this incident was incredibly unpleasant.

During my recent chat with Yang, I probed him about the biggest misfire in “SNL” sketches from his perspective, and he vividly recalled a concept we had prepared for host Ayo Edebiri during the previous season.

“Yang described a comedy sketch set in an elevator where we were jokingly suggesting everyone should kiss due to getting stuck. Unfortunately, it was later edited and filmed without our knowledge, forcing us to adjust…I hadn’t anticipated it going as poorly as it did.”

Yang went on to say, “Just take it as it comes. Humor can be quite subjective, and it’s hard to predict how an audience will react. Still, don’t worry too much about it, just let it slide off your shoulders.”

After becoming part of “SNL” (Saturday Night Live), Yang has earned four Emmy award nominations so far. Interestingly, three of these nominations were for the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. This year, he’s been nominated once more within this same category.
