As a long-time fan of Arena Breakout series, I must admit that I was caught off guard by the unexpected turn of events regarding Arena Breakout: Infinite’s Early Access launch. While I had grown accustomed to the occasional differences in release dates between platforms, I naively assumed that the beta tests on Steam meant that the game would be available there as well.
It’s not guaranteed that a game launched on one platform will be released simultaneously on another. With the emergence of Epic Games Store and other independent PC platforms, even release dates within the same device can vary. Interestingly, despite beta testing being conducted on Steam, we expected Arena Breakout: Infinite to begin its Early Access concurrently on Morefun Studios’ launcher and Steam. However, this did not occur, causing confusion among fans. In this article, we will provide more insights into the circumstances surrounding this event.
Arena Breakout: Infinite Early Access launch on Steam explained
The title, expected to compete with hit extraction shooters such as Escape from Tarkov or Gray Zone Warfare, has been launched in Early Access. However, despite a name that seemed reminiscent and hinted towards Steam’s program of allowing players to experience games still in development, ABI has not yet made its debut on Steam. So, the question arises: why was the release not simultaneous across both platforms?
It turns out that the term “Early Access” may not imply a release on Steam as many of us initially thought. Developers, in fact, clarified this point in a FAQ posted on X prior to launch. Our team has previously discussed this, so keep in mind that the premiere won’t occur on Steam, according to their message.
The Early Access version can currently be obtained for free directly from the main site, but it isn’t available for download through STEAM yet. We’re working hard to make the Steam download accessible as soon as possible.
Some gamers assert that additional details concerning the Steam launch will be disclosed during Gamescom in late August. Furthermore, many players have voiced concerns about the monetization strategy of the game, alleging that the developers have not kept their promises and made it a ‘Pay to Win’ title. This controversy may be one reason why ABI hasn’t appeared on Steam; the creators might fear unfavorable reviews. Given the uproar surrounding the Early Access launch of this project, it’s no wonder there are currently no plans to release it on consoles.
