Batman Arkham Origins Just Got The Remaster It Deserves

The Batman: Arkham games are widely considered to be among the greatest superhero games ever made. While not perfect, the original three games remain incredibly popular with fans.

I loved Batman: Arkham Origins, but it had a rough launch, especially on PC – so many frustrating issues held it back. Thankfully, someone over at NexusMods created a remaster that finally fixes those problems and makes the game play how it always should have! It’s a must-download for any fan.

This Batman Arkham Origins Is A Beauty

The City Is Gorgeous

The “Arkham Origins Advanced Graphics” mod dramatically improves the game’s visuals. It includes higher-resolution textures for Batman’s suit, enhanced reflections (up to 4K), improved post-processing effects for the open world, more realistic snow, better shadows, and a redesigned cape, among many other changes. The mod also adds a new “max” graphics setting that makes the game look significantly updated, almost like a full remaster.

Installing this mod is straightforward, but you’ll need to have at least one downloadable content pack for it to function correctly. The good news is it works with achievements, meaning you can enjoy the visual improvements while playing Origins and still unlock them!

Players are praising the visual improvements to the game. One user called it a “great upgrade,” noting the enhanced beauty. Another appreciated that the mod refined the graphics without drastically altering the original art style, which they felt was important to maintain.

If you haven’t tried Origins yet, I’d suggest checking it out, with a few caveats. While the game still has some technical issues, it shines when focusing on Batman’s detective skills and features some exciting action sequences. The Cold, Cold Heart DLC, which centers around Mr. Freeze, is enjoyable despite its imperfections and offers a good experience with the classic villain.

What’s Next For The Batman Games?

It’s Time For A Reset

The future of the Arkham series is uncertain. Following the poor reception of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in 2024 – a game intended to connect to the Arkham universe – it’s unclear what’s next for the series, or even for Rocksteady Studios. Gotham Knights, though separate from the Arkham universe, also wasn’t a major success.

It’s surprising that Warner Bros. seems unsure how to move forward with Batman, but this has happened before with the series. A fresh start could be beneficial, perhaps with updated fighting mechanics and a storyline inspired by the classic, earlier days of the character.

It looks like we’ll be waiting a long time for the next Batman: Arkham game. There aren’t any plans for a new one right now, so we’ll have to replay the existing games in the meantime.
