Sonic fan’s tattoo goes viral after the official creator is baffled by it

A fan of the Sonic the Hedgehog series is getting a lot of attention online because of a surprisingly unusual tattoo, which even puzzled the game’s Creative Director, who questioned the placement.

Okay, so the tattoo isn’t actually of Sonic himself, but it’s based on the logo from Sonic Heroes. You know, the one with Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails all arranged in a circle like rings? That’s what the tattoo looks like!

The tattoo is a great tribute to the beloved 2003 PlayStation 2 game, which stood out for letting players easily switch between different Sonic characters during gameplay.

The original artist who created the logo and served as Creative Director for the Sonic the Hedgehog games is puzzled by where the tattoo was placed.

Sonic dev surprised by tattoo placement

Okay, so I saw this post on X and it was kinda wild! As the guy who originally designed the thing, it was cool to see it getting attention, but honestly, the guy who got the tattoo… the placement was just… unexpected! It was funny stumbling across my own work like that though, haha.

So, yeah, the post blew up almost instantly. It got over 24,000 likes as everyone started sharing their thoughts on what he said – it was crazy!

What really made things amusing was the tattoo owner’s reply to Kazuyuki’s comment. They responded, “I don’t even know how to answer that, it was a really tough time,” and added a laughing emoji.

It’s great to see my old design still around, but honestly, that’s a really strange place for a tattoo…! (And I guess the Japanese text adds a bit of surprised amusement.)

Kazuyuki is confused because the tattoo is located right on the elbow – a particularly sensitive area for tattoos. The elbow has very little fat or muscle to cushion the pain, and it’s close to the bone with lots of nerve endings. It really takes dedication to Sonic the Hedgehog to get a tattoo there!

Even though it’s in a spot that gets a lot of wear and tear, someone is dedicated to maintaining the artwork. The artist has kindly offered to periodically fix any fading to keep it looking its best.

It’s not unusual for tattoos to become popular for strange reasons. For example, a fan of the YouTuber Corpse Husband famously tattooed a single strand of his hair onto their skin, and someone else got a very unusual Shrek design on their forehead.
