Square Enix announced that the age rating for Final Fantasy XIV in Japan will be changing. Currently rated for ages 15 and up (CERO C), the game will soon be rated for ages 17 and up (CERO D) with the release of Patch 7.5.
The company explained this change was mainly due to the Group Pose feature. Keeping the game rated for younger audiences would have meant limiting what players could do with this feature.
Here’s the translation of Square Enix’s announcement. The first part of Final Fantasy XIV’s Patch 7.5 will be released on April 28th.

With the upcoming Patch 7.5, we intend to update the age rating for Final Fantasy XIV in Japan from CERO C to CERO D.
Currently, our game is rated CERO C, which would require us to limit the functionality of the Group Pose feature. To avoid these limitations and keep Group Pose fully available, we’ve decided to change the game’s age rating to CERO D.
This update only affects the age rating; the game itself, how you use it, and any costs remain the same. If you’re under 17, please check with a parent or guardian before continuing to use the service.
