Valve's New Game Hasn't Been Announced, Already Has Almost 17,000 Concurrent Players

As a veteran gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say, the rumblings about Valve’s secret projects have me all a-tingle! I remember the days of eagerly awaiting Half-Life 2 and the thrill it brought. Now, here we are, with Deadlock seemingly on the horizon and Half-Life 3 possibly in development too!

It seems that Valve’s upcoming game, Deadlock, is attracting significant attention before its official announcement, with a notable number of players already engaging concurrently in the game.

On the gaming platform SteamDB, the game Deadlock currently has 16,947 players playing it simultaneously. Over 13,000 of these players are actively engaged in gameplay right now. This number surpasses that of games like Payday 2 and NBA 2K24 at this moment. However, there’s a catch: Deadlock hasn’t been officially unveiled or introduced yet. When attempting to install the game by clicking the button on the SteamDB page, Steam displays an error message saying, “An issue occurred while launching this game: The game configuration is currently unavailable.”

Earlier this year, clips emerged online of the game Deadlock. It is rumored to be a multiplayer hero shooter, similar in style to Overwatch, with elements borrowed from other games like Valorant, Smite, and even some of Valve’s own titles, such as Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2.

It’s not just deadlock that Valve might be developing; there are rumors suggesting that Half-Life 3 could also be in the works, following an actress’s resume which mentioned a Valve project as “Project Sand Dunes.”
