As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that watching Team Spirit’s performance at IEM Cologne 2024 was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Their initial victory at IEM Katowice 2024 had given us all hope for a promising run, but alas, it seems the stars were not aligned in their favor this time around.
At IEM Cologne 2024, Team Spirit has experienced a challenging streak, marked by crushing defeats during the Group Stage. Their struggles began in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals against The MongolZ, where they dropped the first two maps – Ancient (16-13) and Anubis (13-4).
After a quick advancement, our team found themselves facing G2 Esports in the Lower Bracket Quarterfinals at IEM Cologne 2024. This was unexpected as both teams were former champions from an IEM Major tournament. If either team lost this match, it would mean their elimination from IEM Cologne 2024.
Initially, G2 took control in the Nuke match, having been last year’s dual champions at IEM Cologne and Dallas. Team Spirit struggled to keep up, ultimately losing the first map 13-3. However, their troubles were far from over. On Mirage, G2 came close to a perfect victory, winning the map convincingly with a score of 13-1, maintaining their aspirations for a second IEM Cologne title.

For Team Spirit, the performance at the recent event was significantly different from their impressive showing at IEM Katowice 2024, which had originally earned them a place at Cologne. Pondering their performance, it appears Spirit’s journey to the playoffs has been halted prematurely. The team will now be shifting their attention towards their upcoming tournament: BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 #2.
