Marvel Studios’ Multiverse Saga has brought some previously overlooked characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the fold, like Black Bolt from the short-lived Inhumans series and the heroes of the Netflix Defenders saga. However, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to be ignored by Marvel, and it doesn’t look like that will change soon.
When the TV show S.H.I.E.L.D. debuted on ABC in 2013, its tagline, “It’s All Connected,” suggested it shared a universe with the Marvel movies. However, for years, the movies never referenced anything that happened on the show—it was a one-way connection. This changed in 2023 when the Daredevil: Born Again series was significantly reworked, officially making the events of the Defenders Saga part of the official Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
Is Marvel Studios finally recognizing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
Sadly, fans shouldn’t expect to see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. play a role in the upcoming Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars. According to a report from The Beyond Reporter on X, the show will not be included in the events of the Multiverse Saga.
The timeline in S.H.I.E.L.D. became pretty tangled towards the end of the series, with agents traveling both far into the future and back into the past. Their actions definitely would have caught the attention of the Time Variance Authority, but since that organization wasn’t officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe until 2021 – after S.H.I.E.L.D. had already finished – they avoided any consequences.
Many Marvel fans are disappointed that the studio continues to ignore the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” series, especially after years of hoping to see characters like Phil Coulson and Daisy Johnson return to the MCU. While an insider suggested a minor nod to the show might appear in the upcoming “Vision Quest” storyline, details remain unclear.
You can now watch all seven seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Disney+. Plus, keep an eye out for the next Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, coming to theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars will follow shortly after on December 17, 2027.
