So, I just heard from the producer, Masaaki Hoshino, that Pokemon Champions won’t have all the Pokemon available right at launch. Apparently, they’re limiting which ones you can use, and it sounds like they might even switch things up every season. They’re doing this to make sure competitive battles stay balanced and don’t get too crazy with everyone using every single Pokemon.
In a recent interview with TopMob, Hoshino revealed that the upcoming Pokemon Champions game won’t include all Pokemon available from the start. Instead, players will begin with a limited selection of Pokemon.
Hoshino mentioned that launching Champions with more than 1,000 Pokémon right away could be difficult, though plans were still being finalized. It’s uncertain whether this was due to technical issues or concerns about game balance.
Champions to follow seasonal format
So, the developers of Pokemon Champions have announced that when the game launches, we won’t have access to all the Pokemon right away. They’re planning on rolling things out with a limited selection. Plus, the game will be run with a kind of rulebook, or system, and things will change up every season, like a new competitive ladder. It sounds like they’re aiming for a constantly evolving experience!
The game will regularly receive updates with new Pokémon. While it’s unclear exactly how often these updates will come or how many Pokémon will be added each time, the developers believe releasing all Pokémon at once could make the game unbalanced.
As a huge Pokémon fan, it’s awesome to hear they’re thinking about the future! The creator mentioned there could eventually be thousands of Pokémon, which is incredible! But they also realize that having them all available at once might be overwhelming. Their idea to rotate which Pokémon are available depending on the season sounds like a really smart way to keep things fresh and manageable – almost like seasonal events! It’s a great way to keep the game exciting for a long time.

Hoshino explained that the version of the game presented at the event was still being worked on, and they haven’t made final decisions about how many characters will be included or how the game’s seasons will work.
As a huge Pokémon fan, I was really excited to hear that The Pokémon Company is building Pokémon Champions to be something that will stick around for a long, long time. They’ve said they want it to constantly improve and stay fun for players for years to come, which is awesome!
He stated that future mainline Pokémon games will share new Pokémon and features with Champions, keeping the two connected, though updates won’t happen simultaneously.
When the game first comes out, Mega Evolution is going to be the only special battle mechanic. They’re saying that things like Terastallization and Z-Moves might be added later on, but they won’t be available at launch. So, for now, it’s all about Mega Evolutions!
