The plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day sets up a fantastic conflict unlike anything you’d find in the comics. The story direction and the use of a familiar character suggest a really exciting adventure.
Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man movie is shaping up to be a big team-up, bringing together characters from across the Marvel universe. Besides facing familiar villains like Tarantula, Boomerang, Scorpion, and Tombstone, Spider-Man will encounter heroes like Bruce Banner and the Punisher, and there’s a chance Daredevil might appear too.
The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows Spider-Man battling Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tarantula – classic villains he often faces. However, the story might also include unexpected fights, particularly if rumors about a change in Spider-Man’s DNA prove to be correct.
Why Spider-Man: Brand New Day Could Include A Man-Spider vs. Hulk Battle
The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows Peter Parker gaining the ability to shoot webs organically, and Bruce Banner tells him this is due to a change in his DNA. This plot point is similar to storylines from Spider-Man: The Animated Series, specifically “The Six Arms Saga” and “The Other.”
The famous “Six Arms Saga” features Spider-Man attempting to get rid of his powers, which unexpectedly results in him growing four extra arms. The animated series version changes things up: Spider-Man not only gains the six arms but also transforms into a monstrous, animalistic form called Man-Spider. Both of these changes happen after Dr. Curt Connors warns Spider-Man that he’s on the verge of a mutation that could make him lose his humanity.
Published in the early 2000s, “The Other” tells a story similar to previous ones, but with a more intense and mysterious tone. It also introduces a new villain named Morlun. This storyline is notable because it’s where Spider-Man starts producing his own webbing, a change that mirrored the version of the hero seen in the Tobey Maguire films.
The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day suggests the story will draw inspiration from both “The Six Arms Saga” and “The Other.” However, it’s currently unclear how these elements will come together. If the movie follows the path of the animated series, we might see a live-action version of Man-Spider, where Peter Parker undergoes a disturbing transformation.
Okay, so the rumors are swirling, and if they’re true, we might see Peter transformed into something really unsettling – imagine a monstrous, eight-legged version of Spider-Man, barely even recognizable in his ripped-up suit. Honestly, the thought is both terrifying and incredibly compelling – it would be a truly unforgettable visual if they pull it off.
Bruce Banner Could Regain His Savage Hulk Persona
The recent storyline featuring a ‘Man-Spider’ isn’t the only exciting change happening in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With Bruce Banner back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many fans are hoping to see the Hulk return in a big way. After his disappointing defeat in Avengers: Infinity War, there’s a strong desire to see Marvel give the Hulk a chance to redeem himself.
Even with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk appearing prominently in both Avengers: Endgame and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the character hasn’t fully reverted to his original form. Now that Marvel seems to be moving away from the ‘Smart Hulk’ personality, fans are wondering if Bruce Banner will return to being the classic Hulk we first knew.
The next movie in Phase 6 could go in a few different directions. One idea is that a villain with mind control powers, similar to one from the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline, accidentally or on purpose triggers the Hulk by attempting to control Bruce Banner’s mind.
Alternatively, trying to assist Spider-Man could create the very stressful circumstances that would trigger the Hulk’s reappearance.
Why A Man-Spider vs. Savage Hulk Fight Could Happen In Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Now that the groundwork is laid for both Savage Hulk and Man-Spider to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a fight between them seems very likely. If both characters were to transform on screen, it’s hard to believe Marvel would miss the chance to create what would undoubtedly be a hugely exciting and popular superhero battle.
As a movie fan, I think the biggest appeal of this fight, beyond the immediate excitement, is how simple it would be to actually make happen. These creatures are basically walking disasters, always smashing things, so all you’d need to do is put them near each other and stand back – a massive, unforgettable brawl would just start.
This matchup would be special, staying true to the comic books. While Spider-Man and the Hulk have fought before, Marvel hasn’t explored the Man-Spider transformation much beyond the animated series. Although similar changes have happened to Spider-Man, a battle between Man-Spider and the Hulk hasn’t been done yet.
Within the story of Brand New Day, Peter Parker’s change into Man-Spider – or a villain attacking Spider-Man – could endanger Bruce Banner. This could force Banner to transform into the Hulk, leading to a confrontation with Man-Spider.
This echoes a plot point from the first “Six Arms Saga,” where Spider-Man unintentionally involved Dr. Curt Connors in his troubles, ultimately leading to a fight with the Lizard. Now, with Bruce Banner in a similar position to Dr. Connors, it seems likely a comparable situation could unfold with his character.
If Man-Spider causes too much destruction in New York City, the Hulk might be needed to stop him and turn him back to normal. Bruce Banner could decide the risk of transforming into the Hulk is worth taking to deal with this threat.
As a big Spider-Man fan, I think this new Man-Spider character has a real shot at being a threat. He’s way stronger than Peter Parker, but honestly, it’s that smarts of Spider-Man that really wins fights. Sure, all those extra arms are intimidating, but just being physically powerful isn’t enough to make him a true match for the Savage Hulk, especially in the Brand New Day storyline. It’s going to take more than brute force to challenge that level of power.
