As a gamer with a soft spot for Marvel’s intricate narrative tapestry and a knack for spotting nuanced character development, I was thrilled to witness the unveiling of Ironheart at D23. The brief glimpse we got into Riri Williams’ life post-Wakanda Forever promises an enthralling journey that will undoubtedly resonate with fans who appreciate tales of resilience and moral dilemmas.
Since Disney revealed their intentions to decrease the number of Marvel shows for Disney+, the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever spin-off series, Ironheart, has been taking a bit of a backseat. However, at D23, Marvel unveiled some fresh footage featuring Dominique Thorne once again playing Riri Williams in her solo show.
Marvel hasn’t released any Ironheart clips online as of now, but here’s what we know so far: Character Riri is back at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and unlike before in “Wakanda Forever”, she no longer has access to the same resources she had there. In this new storyline, actor Jim Rash reprises his role as the Dean of MIT, who was also seen in “Captain America: Civil War”. It appears that Riri might face expulsion from the school.
Above all else, Riri yearns to reconstruct her Ironheart armor. It’s Anthony Ramos’ Parker Robbins who steps into the picture here. Although Parker isn’t The Hood just yet, he’s guiding Riri along a questionable path as they acquire the necessary components for her suit by less-than-honest means. From the sneak peek of her new armor, it appears more homemade compared to the one she constructed in Wakanda. Riri seems to acknowledge that what she’s doing is immoral, but she persists nonetheless.
At Marvel’s D23 event, executive producer Ryan Coogler, along with the cast including Thorne, were present. They officially announced that Ironheart would debut on Disney+ in 2025.
During that time, the Daredevil: Born Again trailer excited the crowd at D23, just as much as the Human Torch’s costume in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Star Wars was strongly presented with a trailer for Skeleton Crew and the first glimpses from The Mandalorian and Grogu. We can also look forward to Toy Story 5, and Avatar 3 now has an official title.
