Man breaks world record with fingernails longer than a giraffe’s neck

A Vietnamese artist has made it into the Guinness World Records with his incredibly long fingernails. He’s been growing them for over 30 years, and they’re now longer than the neck of a giraffe!

Lưu Công Huyền has the world record for the longest fingernails on a man, measuring a remarkable 594.45 cm (19 ft 6 in). He’s been growing them for 34 years without trimming, and they’re now longer than the height of an average giraffe!

Craig Glenday, the Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, officially measured it at the man’s home in Nam Định province, Vietnam, earlier this year.

Nails measured over 19 feet in total

To measure his nails, string was carefully followed along each curve and contour, then compared to a tape measure. The final measurements are averages from two sets of readings: 388.85 cm for his left hand and 205.6 cm for his right. His longest nail, located on his left thumb, measures an impressive 127.5 cm (4 feet 2 inches).

I recently learned about Huyền, and his story is amazing! He told people he started growing his nails because his dad was a shaman, and he wanted to follow in his footsteps. Even though he didn’t actually become a shaman himself, he just kept letting them grow. He says cutting them now would totally drain him, like he’d feel really uncomfortable and exhausted, both in his mind and body. It’s fascinating!

Even with difficulties, Huyền still paints, skillfully manipulating the bent and twisted nails he uses into detailed designs, and often covering them with vibrant colors. He’s always cautious – when he’s working, getting dressed, or even riding his motorbike – to prevent any damage to his delicate creations.

His wife, Thi Thuan, assists him with daily life and stands by his decision to maintain his long nails, even when people question why she doesn’t ask him to trim them.

I was so stoked to hear about Huyền making it into the Guinness World Records 2026! Apparently, he’s super happy too, which is awesome. It’s cool that he’s joining the ranks of other artists and spiritual leaders who’ve been known for their amazing fingernails – a really unique record to have!

Sandro Dias, a world champion skateboarder, recently added his name to the Guinness World Records. On September 25th, he broke two records – the highest drop-in and fastest speed on a skateboard – by skating down the side of a building in Brazil.
