‘Ironheart’ Footage Continues Riri Williams Story From ‘Black Panther 2’

As a seasoned Marvel enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the intricate tapestry of the MCU, I am beyond excited about the upcoming Disney+ series “Ironheart.” Having grown up with Tony Stark’s Iron Man and more recently, Shuri’s Black Panther, it is refreshing to see a new armored superhero joining the fray.

Watch out, Iron Man, there’s a new armored superhero in the MCU.

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I was thrilled to catch a glimpse of the upcoming Disney+ series “Ironheart” during the D23 Expo on Friday! This captivating show will delve deeper into the story of Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne), a character we first met in 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The footage shared was a perfect continuation of the visual style established in that film, keeping me on the edge of my seat with anticipation!

“Following my overseas internship, Riri found herself in a rut, expressing a desire to create an exceptional, unquestionable project,” she said, alluding to her experiences in Wakanda.

To accomplish this task, she asserts that she requires “real money,” causing her to cross paths with Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos). Parker possesses a mystical cloak enabling him to manipulate the dark arts, creating a conflict between him and Riri, who is more rooted in science. In a particular instance, Parker encounters Alden Ehrenrich’s character, Joe McGillicuddy.

“Parker remarks that anyone who has achieved something significant in their life likely had to take actions that others might find debatable or morally gray in order to succeed.”

There are numerous aerial shots featuring Williams in her Ironheart suit, one notable scene being her dramatically crushing a truck in slow motion. The clip concludes with another, brightly colored suit hurtling towards the camera.

In “Wakanda Forever,” Riri is an exceptionally intelligent student from Chicago who’s developed her power armor suit and a vibranium detector. This technology catches the attention of Wakanda’s leaders, the ocean ruler Namor, and even the CIA. Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Okoye (Danai Gurira) locate Riri amidst Namor’s warriors from the underwater city of Talokan, safeguarding her from their attacks. When Wakanda is invaded by Namor’s troops, Riri’s life is spared by Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), who tragically loses her own life during the watery battle. Riri then allies with the Wakandans to vanquish Namor, and she constructs a flying armor suit for Okoye that she names the Midnight Angel.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the “Ironheart” cast includes Lyric Ross portraying my friend Natalie Washington, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Anji White playing my mom, Manny Montana as Cousin John, and Shea Couleé as Slug.

I was initially conceived by writer Brian Michael Bendis, who played a significant role in shaping Miles Morales’ Spider-Man persona, along with artist Mike Deodato. The miniseries is crafted by Chinaka Hodge, with Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes each taking charge of directing three episodes out of the six that make up the series. (In this context, ‘I’ refers to the show or character Riri.)
