First The Mandalorian And Grogu Footage Revealed At D23

As a gamer with decades of Star Wars fandom under my belt, I must say that the latest news from D23 has sent shivers down my Force-sensitive spine! The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is not just a dream, but a reality coming to us in 2026. Five long years since we last had a Star Wars film in theaters – I’ve missed the thrill of anticipation, the excitement of speculation, and the joy of finally watching the adventure unfold on the big screen!

Approximately five years have passed since a Star Wars movie graced the big screen, but that drought ends in 2026 with the release of “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” This arrival coincides perfectly with the 49th anniversary of the franchise. During D23, eager fans were treated to the exciting news that production on the film has already commenced, and a sneak peek was shown to the audience.

Since the film was recently in production for just a few weeks, there wasn’t much footage available to share. The presentation by Lucasfilm began with a flashback to the initial encounter between Pedro Pascal’s character Din Djarin and Grogu, as depicted in the first episode of The Mandalorian. Following this, we caught a sneak peek into their subsequent journeys, which involved battling an AT-AT.

In the show, Baby Yoda, or Grogu, continues to let his dad handle the filming, but they also enjoy peaceful moments together over a bowl of soup. For a brief moment, Zeb from Star Wars Rebels appears too. Furthermore, in the episode, Grogu was spotted on a spaceship with one of Babu Frik’s species, and Snowtroopers made an entrance as well.

In the continuation of the story following “The Mandalorian” Season 3, Pedro Pascal’s character, Din Djarin, has formally adopted Grogu and is now teaching him about the customs of the Mandalorian way of life.

Jon Favreau is in charge of directing a movie that’s set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026. Additionally, Lucasfilm unveiled the initial trailer for Skeleton Crew during D23, while other notable events from the first day included an announcement about Toy Story 5 and the disclosure of Avatar 3’s title.
