Take-Two Boss Reacts To Borderlands Movie's Bad Reviews: "Give The Film A Chance"

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen countless adaptations of video games to the big screen, and let me tell you, dear reader, some have been akin to a blindfolded man trying to navigate through an intricate labyrinth. The Borderlands movie, freshly out in theaters, appears to be one such misadventure.

The Borderlands film is currently playing in cinemas, but it’s not receiving favorable critics’ opinions. According to TopMob’s review, the movie earned a score of 2 out of 10. Critics have labeled it as “disappointing” and “unoriginal.”

In an interview, Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, advised viewers to be open-minded about the movie, suggesting they give it a fair shot.

He shared with IGN that countless individuals put in tremendous effort, resulting in exceptional intellectual property, an outstanding cast, and an aesthetically pleasing overall look and feel. Given these impressive elements, he’s eager to hear the reactions of the audience.

I just stepped out of the theater after catching the Borderlands movie, released today, August 9. As for audience feedback, it’s still up in the air with no CinemaScore available yet. However, I checked Metacritic and saw that it has a score of 29 from their sister site. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently stands at a mere 7%. So, it seems like opinions on this film are split!

During the interview, Zelnick clarified that the financial outcome of the Borderlands movie’s box office performance doesn’t affect Take-Two, either positively or negatively. It was actually Lionsgate who financed this film, not Take-Two.

As a devoted enthusiast, I’ve got a rich background in the world of filmmaking that stretches back to my tenure as the president and CEO of 20th Century Fox from 1989-1993. Later on, I chose to depart from this esteemed position and venture into another realm: game development, joining the talented team at Crystal Dynamics.

In the movie “Borderlands,” we find Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, and Kevin Hart in leading roles. This film is helmed by director Eli Roth.
