Paolo Sorrentino’s ‘Parthenope’ Starts Theatrical ‘Journey,’ Drops Trailer Ahead of Global Rollout (EXCLUSIVE)

As a movie enthusiast who’s had the privilege of traversing the globe for cinematic experiences, I must say that the international trailer for “Parthenope” has piqued my interest like none other recently. Having spent a significant portion of my youth wandering the winding streets of Italy, the setting alone resonates deeply with me.

The international trailer for Paolo Sorrentino’s “Parthenope,” distributed by Piper Film, Fremantle, and Pathé, has been released in preparation for the worldwide release of the movie, which was first screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May and has already received significant sales.

In the critique of EbMaster’s Siddhant Adlakha, “Parthenope” is referred to as a stunning exploration of cinematic elegance. This film serves as a tribute to the director’s hometown, Naples. Moreover, Sorrentino himself describes it as a narrative revolving around “missed youth,” acting as a sequel of sorts to his autobiographical work, “The Hand of God.”

The main character of the movie is a young woman hailing from Naples, the hometown of the director, a city often referred to as Parthenope in Italy. This role is played by new actress Celeste Dalla Porta, who offers an alluring portrayal, according to Adlakha, as a character so breathtakingly beautiful that people can’t help but gaze at her.

“Adlakha penned that a filmmaker’s artistic journey is one of exploration, delving into the story of a woman discovering her inner self – beyond and through her physical beauty – to reveal the motivations behind his use of the camera: a search for transformative truths about how we perceive the world and ourselves, insights most profoundly revealed through aesthetic exploration.”

In addition to the lead actress “Parthenope,” the cast includes Gary Oldman portraying American novelist John Cheever, Luisa Ranieri known for her role as the troubled Aunt Patrizia in “Hand of God,” Italian legend Stefania Sandrelli who was a muse to Bernardo Bertolucci, and Silvio Orlando, famed for his role as Cardinal Voiello in “The Young Pope.” This talented ensemble also includes other prominent actors.

Piper Films plans to debut “Parthenope” in Italy with a strategic rollout. This includes exclusive late-night screenings at certain theaters from September 19th to 25th, which aim to generate buzz and help the film meet the requirements for Italy’s international Oscar nominee selection process. After this initial release, a nationwide screening in Italian cinemas will take place on October 24th.

Back in early May, just before its Cannes debut, the intriguing film “Parthenope” was quickly snapped up by Pathé across global territories in a whirlwind 48-hour bidding war, with A24 securing the North American rights. Excitingly, A24 is now gearing up to bring this movie to North American audiences later this year, while Pathé has scheduled its French premiere for January 8, 2025. As a movie enthusiast, I’m eagerly awaiting the release of this captivating production!

“As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to announce that ‘Partenope’ has embarked on its global cinema tour, gracing screens near you!”

“The story unfolds as a series of impossible loves and near misses, but it’s these very flaws that make life intriguing and youth memorable. And amidst all this, there stands Naples – a love that found its fulfillment.” The Oscar-winning filmmaker commented.

“The movie titled ‘Parthenope’ was co-produced by Fremantle’s The Apartment label, in collaboration with Pathé from France, as well as Sorrentino Productions (Numero 10), PiperFilm, Saint Laurent under Anthony Vaccarello, and Logical Content Ventures. It also received support from Canal+ and the involvement of Cine+.”
