Westwind Media Expands Leadership and Talent Roster; Doug Kent Named Partner and President

As a seasoned professional in the audio postproduction industry, I find this expansion at Westwind Media to be a significant milestone not just for the company but for the entire community of creatives. The addition of Doug Kent as partner and president, along with industry veterans like Joe Earle, Gabriel J. Serrano, Christian P. Minkler, and Nicole Zabala, promises to elevate Westwind’s already impressive portfolio even further.

Westwind Media, a renowned sound design and audio postproduction company situated in Burbank, known for projects like “Queen Charlotte” on Netflix and “The White Lotus” on HBO, is growing both its executive and creative teams.

Experienced professional Doug Kent has been appointed as a partner and president at the private business, established back in 1997.

I’ve recently added two new members to my team – re-recording mixers Joe Earle and Gabriel J. Serrano. Following this, we welcomed Christian P. Minkler earlier. Most recently, Nicole Zabala has joined us in a strategic and business development role as our VP.

Lately, Kent held the position of Senior Vice President at Formosa Group, after spending 15 years in the same role at Technicolor.

“Kent expressed his enthusiasm about his new role, stating it’s a unique chance to establish an enduring impact within the industry. Moreover, he sees it as an opportunity to cultivate a business that embodies the diverse spirit of Los Angeles, mirroring the city where he resides and was raised. While anyone can bring change, Kent is thrilled about the prospect of shaping and guiding our company from this leadership post.”

He noted that Westwind Media serves as a “creative sanctuary” and is a “specialized production house,” allowing us to build stronger relationships with our clients and nurture our artistic talent.

In 2024, Earle will receive the Cinema Audio Society Career Achievement Award. Notably, he has won four Emmy Awards out of 24 nominations, with victories in “American Crime Story” and “Glee”. Before joining his current position, Earle worked at Formosa Group and earlier at Technicolor. Expressing his feelings, Earle stated, “Doug and I have a long history in this industry. We’ve collaborated on various projects throughout the years, and it’s rewarding to work with him again. Doug has a clear vision, an exceptional team, and a drive to make a difference.”

Earle teamed up with Serrano, who boasts a resume featuring “John Wick: Chapter 2,” “Fire Country” on CBS, “Reservation Dogs” and “Snowfall” on FX, the “Expendables” films, and hails from Formosa Group as well.

Minkler officially became part of our team, having previously worked on multiple assignments at Westwind. Among the recent projects are “Bridgerton” and “The White Lotus.” Previously, he was nominated for an Oscar due to his contributions to “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

Zabala’s background includes stints at Technicolor and Formosa Group.
