Prime Video’s Cross Season 3 Has An Exciting Advantage

The Prime Video series Cross has been renewed for a third season, and this time it has an edge over the previous seasons. The show is based on the internationally popular Cross book series by James Patterson, which has been translated into many languages. As of early 2026, there are 35 books in the main series, with a new book usually published each year.

As a huge fan of the books, I wasn’t surprised at all when Prime Video decided to adapt them for TV. So far, we’ve gotten two seasons, and I’m really enjoying Aldis Hodge as Cross and Isaiah Mustafa as Two John – they’re fantastic!

The first season of Cross was a hit, largely due to its talented cast and skilled showrunner. While the second season received generally positive feedback from viewers and critics, critics were notably more enthusiastic. Strong viewership and streaming numbers led Prime Video to quickly renew the show for a third season, announced on the same day as the season two finale. The upcoming season has a particularly good chance of success, thanks to a key advantage.

Cross Season 3 Is The First To Incorporate Audience Reactions & Feedback

Most TV shows are filmed one season at a time, with breaks in between to allow creators to consider audience reactions and make improvements. But Prime Video’s Cross was different – it received an order for two seasons and the team decided to film both seasons consecutively, rather than filming them separately.

The cast and crew of Cross completed filming seasons 1 and 2 before any episodes were released. This meant they had no idea what viewers would think of the show or what kind of feedback they’d receive. In an interview with Ash Crossan from ScreenRant, the cast talked about how challenging it was to work without knowing the audience’s reaction.

Isaiah Mustafa, who plays John Sampson, shared that he usually reviews his own performance to identify and fix errors. However, he didn’t have that opportunity this time and had to rely on feedback from others. Now that seasons one and two of Cross have been released, he plans to go back to his usual method of self-review for future work.

Samantha Walkes, who plays Elle, also admitted she was quite nervous at the start of the project. She explained that while the future of the show was uncertain, she felt confident because the strong relationships she had with her colleagues from the first installment remained the same. She trusted and relied on her fellow cast and crew members completely.

The team behind Cross won’t face the same last-minute rush for season 3 as they did with season 2. The season 2 finale aired on March 18, 2026, and filming for season 3 doesn’t begin until April 2026. While they likely already have scripts written, they have a few weeks to refine them based on how viewers responded to the finale and any feedback they’ve received.

What Cross Needs To Do More (& Less) Of In Season 3

Fans frequently complained that the first two seasons of Cross lacked a consistent story. Viewers on the show’s online forum often pointed out unresolved storylines and plot holes. The writing would benefit from fewer dangling threads and side plots that pull focus from the main story, making Cross easier to follow.

The next season of Cross should focus more on Alex Cross using his skills as a forensic psychologist to understand the motives of the criminals he’s investigating. The show often overlooks this important aspect of his character. It also needs to recapture the darker, more realistic feel of the first season. Right now, it’s leaning too much towards dramatic storylines and losing the compelling, case-focused appeal that made it interesting.

The third season of Cross really needs to show more of the relationship between Alex Cross and John Sampson. Their friendship is a highlight of the show, and fans want to see them interact more. Season two didn’t give them nearly enough screen time together, which was disappointing.
