Jenna Ortega Says Approaching ‘Everything I Do With the Confidence of the Average White Man Changed My Life’ and ‘Made Me Feel Better’

As a seasoned movie reviewer with a penchant for delving into the lives of actors, I find Jenna Ortega‘s journey to be as captivating as her performances on-screen. In a world where self-doubt and insecurities often loom large, Ortega’s unique piece of advice from her cello instructor resonates profoundly – embody the average white man with confidence.

In a video interview with Vanity Fair, Jenna Ortega was questioned about the most valuable advice she’s received from her mentor regarding handling new challenges. This guidance, which she learned from her cello instructor on “Wednesday,” encourages Jenna to approach her doubts and insecurities like an ordinary man of typical background (not specifically white).

In the performance I’m currently delivering, I’m required to perform on the cello, yet strangely enough, I don’t play the cello. I want this portrayal to appear authentic so that real cellists won’t mock me with harsh words. My teacher advised me that as long as I exude confidence in my actions and maintain a strong, stoic demeanor, embodying the character fully, it would be acceptable. She suggested that I should approach every aspect of life with the self-assuredness of an average white man. That piece of advice transformed my outlook and made me feel more at ease.

“Ortega admitted feeling anxious about the interview, worrying that he might talk excessively. He questioned what there was even to discuss for such a long time. Then, he suddenly thought, ‘How would an ordinary white man handle this?’ Perhaps he’d just show up casually, even with mismatched socks.”

Currently, Ortega is resuming filming for “Wednesday,” a series expected to air its second season on Netflix in 2025. Last year, during the Actors on Actors series hosted by EbMaster, Ortega mentioned that Season 2 would emphasize the horror elements of the show more than the romantic plotlines.

“Ortega mentioned that they’re planning to emphasize the scary elements of the series a bit more. Since the show already has a playful tone, and features creatures like vampires, werewolves, and superpowers, it’s important not to make it overly serious.”

I’m setting aside any romantic entanglements for Wednesday this time around, which I find quite liberating, given my previous feelings about that storyline from Season 1. To be clear, I’ve expressed before that the love triangle involving Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) and Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White) seemed ill-fitted for my character.

Ortega mentioned to E! on the Emmys red carpet earlier this year that “everything’s amplified” in “Wednesday” Season 2, noting it’s “more action-filled.” He further explained that each episode seems more like a movie, which he finds enjoyable.
