Fandango Takes Sales on Silvia Luzi And Luca Bellino’s Locarno Competition Title ‘Luce’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a cinephile who has traversed the vast expanse of global cinema, I find myself consistently captivated by the unique stories that emerge from Italy’s vibrant film industry. The latest masterpiece that has caught my attention is “Luce,” directed by the dynamic duo Silvia Luzi and Luca Bellino. Having made waves with their 2017 film “Crater,” they have once again proven their knack for crafting compelling narratives that resonate deeply.

International distribution rights for the film “Luce,” a competition entry from Locarno that was directed by Silvia Luzi and Luca Bellino, have been acquired by Fandango Sales outside of Italy.

As a cinephile who has attended numerous film festivals over the years, I can confidently say that the pair responsible for the 2017 movie “Crater” (“Il Cratere”) truly made an impact on the international film scene. I had the pleasure of seeing this masterpiece at Venice’s Critics Week in 2017 and was blown away by its innovative storytelling and captivating visuals. To add to their accolades, they won a special jury award at Tokyo, solidifying their status as a dynamic duo to watch in the industry. Their work is a testament to the power of cinema and I eagerly await their future projects.

“Luce” – This film, produced by the Oscar-nominated producer Donatella Palermo (“Fire at Sea”), follows Marianna Fontana (“Indivisibili,” “Capri, Revolution”) as a young woman in her twenties, who works in a chilly and damp leather factory in a small town in Southern Italy. She yearns to fill a void in her life, as the synopsis describes.

“On a sunny day at the beach, an unexpected idea strikes her. From that point forward, her life intertwines with another’s. Her cellphone’s voice becomes a fragile link between her aspirations, creativity, and the world surrounding her, as suggested by the narrative.”

“The creators of ‘Luce’ aimed to portray this narrative from the perspective of a young woman who is often expected to be just an ordinary worker, unknowledgeable and submissive. This was stated by the co-directors in their director’s statement.”

“Under these pressures, she is compelled to make questionable decisions as she seeks something missing, a void, and a voice that takes on a life of its own. It might be fabricated or even more authentic than the world around her,” they pointed out.

Additionally, the directors mentioned that they filmed “Luce” using a script that was constantly revised day by day. They utilized real locations, real individuals, sequential shots, and acting that was more like a portrayal of one’s true self rather than traditional fiction. Furthermore, they highly commended Marianna Fontana for her exceptional performance as the film’s central character, referring to her as the soul of the movie.

The film titled “Luce” is jointly produced by Bellino’s Bokeh Film studio and Palermo’s Stemal Entertainment, in collaboration with RAI Cinema.
