Visit Films Acquires Worldwide Sales Rights to Locarno Competition Title ‘Electric Child,’ Trailer Debuts (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for films that challenge conventional narratives, I find myself intrigued by the trailer for “Electric Child.” The story of a father’s journey into uncharted territories in search of a cure for his newborn son resonates deeply with my own experiences as a parent.

Visit Films, a company based in New York, has obtained global distribution rights (with exceptions for German-speaking Europe, Benelux, and the Philippines) for the film “Electric Child,” directed by Simon Jaquemet from Switzerland. The movie will make its debut this Friday at the Locarno Film Festival, competing in the Piazza Grande open-air theater. EbMaster has been granted exclusive rights to show the trailer (see below).

“In ‘Electric Child,’ a father embarks on an extraordinary journey to save his infant son, pushing beyond societal ethics and venturing into perilous, unexplored realms when he illegally modifies and adapts a powerful artificial intelligence system from his workplace.”

“Jaquemet explained that he wanted to portray the fragility of humans amidst sophisticated technology. His intention was to draw viewers into Sonny’s story, blending it with the enigmatic force of artificial intelligence, resulting in an engaging visual and emotional tale.”

Ryan Kampe, the president, stated: “The prospect of living alongside artificial intelligence should fill us with a mix of anticipation and apprehension. Simon manages to seamlessly merge these realms into a captivating tale that conveys a straightforward message in an engaging and emotionally impactful way, inciting thought-provoking discussions and potential commercial triumph.”

The movie was created by Michela Pini, Aurelius Eisenreich, and Jaquemet, who are affiliated with the Swiss production company, 8horses.

“Simon’s concept for ‘Electric Child’ captivated us right away,” stated Pini and Eisenreich. “The movie’s storyline, which combines a father’s battle with AI, is both emotionally moving and thought-provoking, making it a remarkable production.”

“In ‘Electric Child,’ we have Elliott Crosset Hove, known for his roles in ‘Godland’ (2019) and ‘Winter Brothers’ (2017), joining forces with Rila Fukushima, who has appeared in ‘Ghost in the Shell’ (2017), ‘Game of Thrones’ (2015), and ‘The Wolverine’ (2013).”

The design of the set is handled by Michael Baumgartner, the camera work is done by Gabriel Sandru, the editing is carried out by Caterina Mona, and the music for this project is composed by Wiwek Mahabali.

In this production, we have Titus Kreyenberg, Raymond van der Kaaij, Judith Lichtneckert, Bianca Balbuena, and Bradley Liew serving as co-producers. Olga Lamontanara holds the role of associate producer. Lastly, Ascot Elite Entertainment is responsible for distribution in Switzerland.

The movie was jointly produced by Unafilm, Revolver Amsterdam, Perron X, Epicmedia Productions, SRF/SRG SSR, and CH Media.
