The casting rumors of Ben Affleck as Hulk Hogan and Matt Damon as Peter Thiel are nothing short of inspired. It’s like watching a real-life drama unfold on screen, with the added bonus of seeing Affleck sport a blonde wig and fake tattoos.
The spirit of Gawker lives on, becoming more enigmatic and peculiar! Notably, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company, Artists Equity, have acquired Charles Randolph’s screenplay adapted from Ryan Holiday’s book titled “Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Structure of Deceit” according to Variety. This potentially means that one of the three Gawker movies could finally come to fruition. It’s speculated that Affleck might portray Hulk Hogan, who sued Gawker into oblivion, while Damon may embody billionaire Peter Thiel, a person whose sexuality was exposed by the website and subsequently funded Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker and its founder, Nick Denton. While we can appreciate the casting, it’s common knowledge that Damon has chosen to discontinue using a derogatory term.
The film, now called “Killing Gawker,” has Gus Van Sant – who’s famous for his ’90s LGBTQ cinema and even a remake of “Psycho” with Vince Vaughn – set to direct. This is quite a reunion, as it reminds us that Van Sant once directed the Oscar-winning “Good Will Hunting” back in the ’90s. In this film, we’ll witness an intriguing reunion of sorts, depicting the questionable bond between a wicked gay billionaire and Hulk Hogan – not your typical family gathering!
