Monster Hunter Wilds introduces its Basic Mechanics, new Focus Mode, and the Great Sword weapon

As a seasoned Monster Hunter veteran who has slain countless beasts across generations, I must admit that Capcom has outdone themselves with these trailers for Monster Hunter Wilds. The attention to detail and refinement of mechanics is nothing short of breathtaking, and I can’t wait to get my hands on this game in 2025!

As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled about the recent revelations from Capcom regarding “Monster Hunter Wilds.” They’ve unleashed a series of trailers, offering a comprehensive walkthrough of its mechanics in preparation for its 2025 release – an event eagerly awaited by action RPG enthusiasts like myself. These trailers delve deep into the fundamentals, while also shedding light on the innovative Focus Mode that’s part of this new Monster Hunter installment. Notably, the Great Sword trailer signifies the start of a wave of weapon-centric previews we can look forward to in the coming days.

In 2025, the action-adventure game Monster Hunter Wilds is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, all at the same time globally. Previously, Capcom confirmed that it will enable cross-platform play for this title.

Monster Hunter Wilds – Basic Mechanics

The trailer for “Basic Mechanics” provides essential information for experienced Monster Hunter players coming back. Characters can move freely and replenish health using items when their weapon is holstered. However, before attacking monsters, they need to manually unsheathe their weapons, which significantly decreases their overall agility.

Previously mentioned are the novel creatures in Monster Hunter Wilds called Seikrets, which players can ride. These nimble beings offer unique benefits such as restoring player’s health and sharpening weapons during the ride. Additionally, they enable players to switch between primary and secondary weapons while out in the field, providing a versatile attack strategy without requiring a return to camp.

During hunting expeditions, hunters are equipped with devices called Slingers, which offer useful functions. These tools allow hunters to initiate actions depending on the ammunition they use, such as one that emits a bright flash momentarily incapacitating monsters. Additionally, there’s a type of Slinger known as Hook Slingers, which enables players to collect items from afar, eliminating the need to physically approach them now.

Monster Hunter Wilds – Focus Mode

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Focus Mode is a fresh feature that enables hunters to adjust their position for more precise attacks and timed defenses. For example, when a Great Sword user is preparing to strike enemies, they can rotate their character just as they’re bringing down the weapon, improving the accuracy of their attack.

In Focus Mode, the video explains that both attacks and guard positions will be aligned with the direction the player’s camera is pointing, giving players a clearer understanding of where their actions are focused.

Repeatedly hitting specific areas of the monster could cause it to bleed, making those spots more visible due to a bright red marker (Focus Mode). These marked regions are the monster’s vulnerable points, and they stand out more in Focus Mode. Hitting these wounds inflicts more damage on monsters compared to regular attacks.

Furthermore, each type of weapon comes equipped with a novel maneuver, the Focus Strike. This distinctive attack is designed to inflict greater harm on vulnerable areas or injuries.

Monster Hunter Wilds – Great Sword Weapon Overview

In the thrilling world of Monster Hunter, one weapon that truly stands out is the mighty Great Sword. Despite its relatively slower assaults, this weapon packs a punch like no other, capable of dishing out massive damage with each swing. As a skilled hunter, I’ve found myself employing hit-and-run strategies to dodge enemies and strike back with my powerful blade. In the heat of battle, I can even use the Great Sword as a shield, deflecting incoming attacks and turning the tide in my favor.

While preparing for a large shot, hunters are given some flexibility to adjust their position slightly so they can find the most suitable angle for their intended target.
