Dataminer Thinks Half-Life 3 Is In Development After Resume Leak

As a dedicated fan of Half-Life since the early days, I can hardly contain my excitement! The whispers and rumors have always been there, but this recent development feels like a beacon of hope. Tyler McVicker, a man whose life’s work seems to be uncovering every hidden corner of Valve’s universe, has provided us with yet another piece of the puzzle.

It is speculated that Valve could potentially be developing Half-Life 3 based on the insights of a Half-Life expert and a recent actor’s resume credit.

Over the weekend, I, as a Half-Life fanatic, caught wind of an intriguing detail on a voice actress’s resume: “Project White Sands (video game)” – a potential hint at a new installment in the Half-Life series. The suspense stems from this project being associated with Valve and the fact that “White Sands” is a desert location in New Mexico, a place eerily familiar to Gordon Freeman’s former workplace, Black Mesa. It’s got me on the edge of my seat!

Currently, video game expert Tyler McVicker has shared a video expressing his belief that Project White Sands might be the next traditional (non-VR) Half-Life game. He mentioned that another single-player Half-Life production, tentatively named HLX, was under development at approximately the same time as Half-Life: Alyx.

By examining Valve’s Source 2 projects, such as Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2, Vickers suggested that the character in HLX appears to wear an HEV suit and ventures “off-world,” encountering creatures like xengorillas and pentatanks. He speculates that these elements may have been initially planned for Half-Life: Alyx but were still being developed in some form.

It turned out that he had doubts about whether HLX was simply a game engine feature or a save file format at first. However, following the latest leak by the voice actor, he now feels confident that Project White Sands might be an internal code name for HLX.

In his final remarks, Vickers implied that he believes the project he referenced earlier is indeed Half-Life 3. Previously, in the year 2021, Vickers had expressed doubts about Half-Life 3 being under development, stating instead that at that time, Valve’s primary focus was on the Steam Deck handheld device.
