Meghan Markle Says She Has Not ‘Scraped the Surface’ on Publicly Discussing Her Suicidal Thoughts

As I reflect upon Meghan Markle‘s courageous journey, I am truly astounded by her resilience and unwavering commitment to helping others. Her experiences, though deeply personal and harrowing, have become beacons of hope for countless individuals who find themselves in the darkest corners of despair.

During an interview with CBS, Meghan Markle and her spouse, Prince Harry, revealed that they had more to share regarding their experiences with mental health challenges, specifically her battles with contemplating suicide.

As a film enthusiast, I can relate. For me, as well as for many others who’ve faced hardships or traumatic experiences, sharing our stories is an integral part of healing. I haven’t yet fully revealed my journey, but I know that no one should ever have to endure what I did. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone else, and I would never want someone else to be in a situation where they feel unheard or forced to make such difficult plans.

In a 2021 conversation with Oprah Winfrey, Markle publicly disclosed her struggles with suicidal feelings for the first time. She confided in Oprah that she initially felt embarrassed when discussing this sensitive matter with her spouse and relatives.

“Markle confessed that at the moment, she felt too embarrassed to express it and even more so to disclose it to Harry given his past struggles. However, she recognized that if she didn’t speak up, she might act upon it. She admitted, ‘I was not wanting to go on living anymore.'”

Three years on, Markle has become less hesitant about talking openly about her challenges. Although this subject still carries a delicate touch for the Duchess of Sussex, her aim is to offer solace to those wrestling with suicidal feelings and inspire them to reach out for assistance.

“Should my experiences help another person or motivate someone to truly reach out and verify if they’re okay, even when things may seem fine on the surface, then it’s all worth it for me. I’m prepared to endure for such a meaningful impact.” (Markle)
