Chris Evans ‘Couldn’t Pass Up’ Playing Johnny Storm Again in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ Reveals Why He Declined Ryan Reynolds’ Cue Cards Offer

As a seasoned movie-goer and a self-proclaimed Marvel enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Chris Evans from Captain America to the Human Torch, I must say that his cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine” is nothing short of spectacular.

ATTENTION: This tale may reveal plot details from “Deadpool & Wolverine,” currently screening in cinemas.

Following his short stint in the 2021 action-comedy “Free Guy”, Chris Evans eagerly seized the chance to collaborate once more with director Shawn Levy and actor Ryan Reynolds, leading him to accept a cameo role in the upcoming film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” as shared with People.

“A few years back, Ryan texted me, we’re good friends,” Evans explained. “He simply said, ‘In case you dislike this proposal, don’t give it a second thought. But I have something that could potentially create quite a stir and would allow you to portray a character from your past.'”

In the latest Marvel production, Chris Evans once again took on the character he played in 2005’s “Fantastic Four” and its sequel from 2007, “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” where he portrayed Johnny Storm, also known as The Human Torch.

As a die-hard fan, I’d leap at any task Ryan asked of me. He graciously included me in ‘Free Guy’, and I wholeheartedly trust his judgment. So when the opportunity arose to play Johnny once more, I didn’t hesitate. It was an absolute blast to be part of it – from filming to watching the final product, every moment was pure joy!

In Evans’ portrayal of “Deadpool & Wolverine”, there’s a post-credits speech laden with strong language and mature jokes. To assist Evans during this challenging scene, Reynolds was ready to offer prompter cards for the seasoned Marvel Cinematic Universe actor.

“Ryan suggested using cue cards, but I informed him that I’d be performing without them,” Evans explained. “To be honest, I rarely get to speak lines like these. Let me tell you, I am relishing every moment of it because I’ve got it all memorized.”
