Fate/stay night Remastered brings the Holy Grail War to Nintendo Switch and Steam on August 8

As an old-school gamer with a soft spot for visual novels and a deep appreciation for the lore of the Fate series, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about the release of Fate/stay night Remastered. Having dabbled in the original back in 2004, I remember being captivated by its intricate storyline and immersive world.

On August 8th, Aniplex and Type-Moon are set to unveil the remastered version of “Fate/stay night” for both Nintendo Switch (eShop) and PC (Steam). This is the long-awaited western release of this critically acclaimed visual novel that first came out in 2004. The digital version will be available in the west at a price of $29.99 USD, however, for a limited time, it’ll offer a 10% discount, reducing its cost to $26.99 USD temporarily.

The forthcoming update will be modeled after the Fate/stay night Realta Nua version for PlayStation Vita, released in 2012. This new version adjusts the game’s backdrops to a 16:9 aspect ratio, though it remains undecided if players will have the option to switch it back to a 4:3 aspect ratio to mimic the original release’s style.

In Fate/stay night, players assume the role of Emiya Shirou, who finds himself caught up in a lethal contest known as the Holy Grail War. Seven Masters summon various historical figures, or Servants, to engage in combat during this battle royale that takes place in the present day. The Servant and Master pairings fight each other until only one remains victorious. This sole survivor then gains access to the powerful Holy Grail, a mystical artifact capable of granting any wish they desire.

In the game Fate/stay night, there are three unique storylines connected to its female characters: Fate (centered around Saber), Unlimited Blade Works (featuring Rin Tohsaka), and Heaven’s Feel (focusing on Sakura Matou). By playing through each of these narratives, you can discover the diverse outcomes that await Emiya Shirou.

Story

—The Holy Grail War—

In Fuyuki City, a ceremony is conducted where seven powerful magicians, called Masters, gather together in an attempt to claim the Root, a mystical artifact rumored to grant any wish made by its holder.

In their quest for dominance, they invoke powerful entities known as Servants (Heroic Spirits), which are summoned using the Holy Grail.

However, throughout the past four Holy Grail Wars, history has yet to see a single victor.

Ten years past, during the Fourth Holy Grail War, Shirou Emiya was rescued from the flames of conflict by a self-declared sorcerer named Kiritsugu Emiya.

As a young lad, Shirou moved in with Kiritsugu and relentlessly sought tutelage in magic, which Kiritsigu found unwelcome. On the eve of Kiritsugu’s demise, Shirou swore to his adoptive father that he would become a champion for justice.

Fast forward to the present.

On one quiet eve, Shirou gets involved in the Holy Grail War and is assailed by a Servant.

As the flash of metal seems poised to end his life, a girl dressed like a knight suddenly arrives to prevent the deadly strike.

The Aid arrived just in time for the Champion of Righteousness, helping him in his quest. Meanwhile, the Spirit of Valor within the Sword protected the Mentor, all three now with their destinies unfolding…
