As someone who grew up with the Game Boy Advance, the nostalgia hit me like a Gyarados splash when I heard about Nintendo adding Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack! Back then, I spent countless hours exploring those dungeons as a human-turned-Pokémon, and it’s incredible to see this gem making a comeback.
It appears that Nintendo continues to intrigue Pokémon enthusiasts by introducing another classic Pokémon game onto the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, albeit not one of the primary series installments. For those who owned a Game Boy Advance or a Nintendo DS in the past, there was probably a delightful Pokémon role-playing game that graced their handheld console.
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, you step into the shoes of a transformed human turned Pokémon character. Alongside your companion Pokémon, navigate through unpredictable dungeons, complete task-oriented assignments, and save misplaced Pokémon.
In 2006, two variants of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon were launched – Red Rescue Team for Game Boy Advance and its counterpart, Blue Rescue Team on Nintendo DS. While both games share similar gameplay, Blue Rescue Team utilized some unique features of the Nintendo DS, such as the dual-screen display.
On August 1, 2024, Nintendo revealed that the game ‘Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team’ will become available in its Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack collection starting from August 9, 2024.
Announcing the latest addition to the Pokémon family! The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will be available exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers starting August 9th.

As a devoted gaming enthusiast, I’ve come to appreciate the captivating world of Mystery Dungeon, a collection of games meticulously crafted by Chunsoft – the same visionaries behind the original five Dragon Quest installments and the gripping Danganronpa series, following their merger with Spike.
As a dedicated Pokémon gamer, I can’t forget my first foray into the Mystery Dungeon x Pokémon crossover, way back with the original Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team. Fast forward to more recent times, and the latest addition to this captivating series was Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX in 2020 – a remake of those classic games that I held near and dear.
