Liquid Shock NAVI in Dramatic Series | BLAST Fall Groups 2024

As a long-time follower of Counter-Strike 2 esports, I must say that the BLAST Fall Groups 2024 event has been nothing short of exhilarating! Team Liquid’s new roster, especially Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak, has been a breath of fresh air. I remember watching him climb through the ranks in lower-tier tournaments, and now here he is, shining on the big stage!

As a diehard gamer in the BLAST Fall Groups 2024 event, I’ve been blown away by the electrifying Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) matches we’ve witnessed so far, especially with Team Liquid’s revamped squad taking center stage. At the epicenter of all the excitement is Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak, their freshly minted AWPer, alongside Justin “jks” Savage and our coach Torbjørn “mithR” Nyborg.

Initially, Virtus.pro suffered a decisive defeat, while on the fourth day of BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2024, Team Liquid pulled off an unexpected 2-1 victory against NAVI, making for a thrilling match!

Before the competition, NAVI stood as a strong favorite, while Team Liquid’s new squad had yet to prove themselves in elite-level tournaments. Interestingly, this was Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak’s first professional CS2 match at the top tier, and the young Polish player didn’t fail to impress.

In the match where Liquid chose Anubis as their map, they managed to dodge NAVI’s fury by winning 13-11, scoring 9 rounds on the attacking side in the second half. However, when it came to NAVI’s chosen map, Mirage, Team Liquid received a crushing defeat with a score of 13-2. Although the series stood at 1-1, many spectators believed that Liquid had little chance of recovery following such a heavy beating from NAVI.

In the final and crucial stage of Inferno, the outcome was uncertain, but once more, it was remarkable performances by the prodigious player Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak that tipped the scales in favor of Liquid, as he held his ground during a 2v1 clutch scenario to secure a narrow victory at 9-8.

In the final stages, Roland Tomkowiak executed an impressive 3 versus 1 clutch play in the post-plant area. Although he lost his life against the remaining CT player, the bomb detonated before they could defuse it, resulting in a victory for Liquid when the score reached double digits.

In response, NAVI managed to score another point, making the score 11-12. Valeriy “b1t” Vakhovskiy then racked up four kills, including two headshots, to maintain NAVI’s presence in the game.

The exhilarating action persisted until the final game phase, where Justin “jks” Savage found himself in a tense 2 versus 1 scenario on the A bombsite during post-plant defense for NAVI. Despite Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen managing to eliminate Mr. Savage, it was all too late as there wasn’t enough time remaining to disarm the bomb.

If Justin “jks” Savage had died slightly earlier, NAVI and their opponents would have been tied at 12-12 on Inferno map, potentially leading to an overtime round. However, due to his untimely demise, Team Liquid seized the opportunity to close out the game dramatically, securing a place in the Group D final.

In this tournament, Team Liquid’s Canadian pairing Keith “NAF” Markovic and Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken led the scoreboard, while Valeriy “b1t” Vakhovskiy of NAVI was the standout player overall. Now, NAVI must go up against BIG in order to keep competing in the BLAST Fall Groups 2024. As for BIG, they managed the second upset in Group D, knocking out Virtus.pro from the competition.
