Peaky Blinders star explains Arthur Shelby’s absence from The Immortal Man movie

So, I was reading an interview with Paul Anderson – you know, Arthur Shelby from Peaky Blinders – and he explained why Arthur isn’t in the new movie with Cillian Murphy. He also let slip how the show’s creators originally planned to wrap things up. It was pretty interesting to hear the backstory!

The latest film revisits Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) as he rebuilds his criminal organization amidst the turmoil of World War II, having previously walked away from that life. Now, he clashes with his son, Duke Shelby (Barry Keoghan), who has taken control of the Birmingham gang in his absence.

Okay, so things have gotten seriously complicated. Apparently, Shelby and his crew are now mixed up in a Nazi scheme to ruin the UK economy with fake money – it’s a huge mess! The game keeps you on the edge of your seat with intense action, but it also has that same gripping, dramatic feel as the original show we all love.

Although some actors from the TV series appear in the movie, not all of them do—for example, Paul Anderson, who played Arthur Shelby, is missing. He’s explained why he didn’t participate in the film.

Paul Anderson says Peaky Blinders fans will see Arthur in a new light

Without giving away any plot details, the new Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, reveals that Arthur Shelby’s story has concluded before the film begins. According to an interview with LadBible, actor Tom Hardy (who plays Anderson) hints that fans will be surprised and see Arthur portrayed in a new way.

The actor said he thought the development was fantastic, calling it a bold move rarely seen on television. He hinted that Arthur’s death wasn’t what it seemed, adding, “We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

The star of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man called the movie “amazing,” but questioned if it was the best move for the series. He explained that he had some reservations and felt they should have made a few more seasons of the show instead of a film, saying he doesn’t really see the need for one.

The BBC and Netflix are planning two more seasons of Peaky Blinders, taking place in the 1950s and focusing on the next generation of the Shelby family. However, according to producer Caryn Mandabach, the show’s creator, Steven Knight, originally envisioned a very specific and impactful conclusion to the series.

I was so surprised when I heard how the director wanted to finish the scene! He told me he envisioned it with me, Joe, and Cillian, and that as we heard the air raid sirens, it would immediately transport you back to the start of World War II. He pictured our characters sending their kids off to war, and then just… that’s it, the scene would end. He even described how the camera would sweep over Birmingham as the sirens went off, announcing we were at war with Germany. It was a really powerful image he had in mind.
