Nintendo Switch Online Adds Pokemon Mystery Dungeon On August 9

As a long-time fan who’s seen the Pokemon franchise grow from humble beginnings on Game Boy to the global phenomenon it is today, I can’t help but feel a nostalgic twinge at the news of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team coming to Switch. Back in 2006, when I was just starting college and trying to balance classes, exams, and late-night gaming sessions, this little gem on Game Boy Advance provided a perfect escape.

Nintendo is set to bring another cherished Pokémon game, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, to its collection of classic games on the Nintendo Switch platform. This title will be available through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service starting from August 9.

First introduced for Game Boy Advance in 2006, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team is a roguelike game where you take on the character of a person who has strangely been transformed into a Pokemon. Once paired with another Pokemon and forming a rescue team, players delve into dungeons and undertake diverse missions to aid fellow Pokemon and solve the enigma behind your transformation.

Announcing the latest addition to the Pokémon family! Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will be available exclusively for Nintendo Switch subscribers with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack starting from August 9th.

Originally, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and its counterpart, Blue Rescue Team, came out together on the Nintendo DS. These games were later updated and re-released for the Nintendo Switch in 2020 under the title Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.

When it gets released, you’ll be able to play Pokemon Mystery Dungeon by subscribing to Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack subscription plan. This premium service offers all the advantages of the basic plan, as well as access to certain Nintendo Switch downloadable content and a collection of classic games from Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis systems.

A base Nintendo Switch Online subscription costs $20 USD a year, while an Expansion Pack membership costs $50 USD a year. Nintendo also offers an annual family plan for $80 that covers up to eight Nintendo Accounts, even across multiple systems.
