It has been confirmed that Harrison Ford will assume the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in next year’s Marvel blockbuster “Captain America: New World Order.” This marks Ford’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the character previously portrayed by the late William Hurt. In this new iteration, Ross holds the position of U.S. President. The footage unveiled at Comic-Con also revealed that Ford will undergo a transformation into the Red Hulk within the film, necessitating some motion-capture acting from the legendary screen actor.
At the Marvel press line during Comic-Con, Ford jokingly commented about transforming into the Red Hulk by motion capture to Angelique Jackson (EbMaster’s assistant), saying: “What was it all about? It was about not giving a care. It was about being paid to be an idiot, which I’ve done before.”
“Ford clarified in a more serious tone, ‘I’m not intending to criticize it.’ Instead, he was pointing out that there were aspects of the role that might not be typical or approved by one’s mother, or acting coach if you had one. However, he found it enjoyable and had a fantastic time. He’s thrilled with the positive reaction we’ve received from the trailer.”
As a seasoned movie critic, I’ve seen it all, but witnessing Harrison Ford’s transformation into the Red Hulk for “Captain America: Brave New World” left me awestruck. His previous exploration with motion capture technology in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” where he was visually rejuvenated to seem decades younger, was just a prelude to this remarkable metamorphosis.
Mackie expressed, “He’s Harrison Ford, and there’s something enigmatic about him. Yet he quickly breaks that image because he’s such a down-to-earth individual. He embodies everything you’d expect from a movie star. He’d casually say, ‘Let’s film this lousy scene,’ and everyone would respond, ‘Absolutely, let’s get it done.'”
During a recent chat with ScreenRant, Ford expressed great admiration for Marvel as he compared the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to his other famous series such as “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones.”
“He commented that it’s quite unique, isn’t it? It breaks free from typical limitations in creativity. It’s enjoyable and entertaining. The team was outstanding. Director Julius Onah did an excellent job. Working with Mr. Anthony Mackie was a blast. We had a great time, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
