FFXIV Japanese Dawntrail character popularity poll results are out, and we’re not surprised

As a dedicated fan of Final Fantasy XIV and someone who has spent countless hours immersed in its captivating universe, I can wholeheartedly say that the Dawntrail expansion has been nothing short of extraordinary. The diverse cast of characters introduced in this expansion has truly stolen the show, and it’s fascinating to see how these new faces have resonated with the community.

In the past month since Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail expansion launched, there’s been a lot of buzz in the community about its rich cast of characters, with certain standouts grabbing everyone’s attention. An informal poll within the Japanese FFXIV fanbase unveiled some expected favorites. As a dedicated fan myself, I can’t help but join the conversation!

Warning: The information below may reveal character details from the Dawntrail expansion of Final Fantasy XIV, so proceed with caution if you wish to avoid such spoilers.

The Dawntrail expansion of Final Fantasy XIV has proven to be one of the most intriguing so far, captivating players not just with its engrossing (albeit slightly imbalanced) storyline but with its impressive roster of new characters that have quickly become favorites for many. To delve deeper into these popular characters, an unofficial poll was circulated among Japanese gamers within the FFXIV community, asking them to choose their favorite characters from the latest expansion.

According to FFXIV insider Audrey (@aitaikimochi) on a previous platform (Twitter) and as shared by ‘Head-Photojournalist’ on Reddit, after receiving approximately 17,000 votes, the top 10 outcomes demonstrated a great deal of affection for Dawntrail’s numerous new characters. However, two returning characters were still favored above the rest.

  1. Erenville
  2. Krile Baldesion
  3. Bakool Ja Ja
  4. Cahciua
  5. Sphene
  6. Otis
  7. Koana
  8. Honey B. Lovely
  9. Gulool Ja Ja
  10. Wuk Evu

1st on our list, without a doubt, is Erenville – a character we found particularly endearing. In Final Fantasy XIV’s narrative, Erenville, the introverted, animal-loving Viera, made his debut during Endwalker’s storyline working as a gleaner for the Forum of Old Sharlayan. He stepped into the limelight more during Dawntrail, as the main tale led us to his hometown in Tural, revealing some deeply emotional tales about his family.

Second place went to Krile, whose origins had an even bigger role in Dawntrail’s story (though some argue it was underused) and an equally emotional twist that left many of us feeling undeniably sympathetic. Third place was none other than Bakool Ja Ja, whose staggering popularity made headlines and even left director Naoki (“Yoshi-P”) Yoshida feeling baffled.

The rest of the list highlights some other fantastic newcomers to the FFXIV storyline, such as Cahciua (Erenville’s mother), Sphene, Koana, Wuk Evu (the most hilarious hrothgar in existence), and even Honey B. Lovely, the infamous Arcadion Raid boss that’s amassing her own player fan club.

However, the obvious elephant in the room is that Wuk Lamat, Dawntrail’s overtly positive and all-embracing protagonist, is entirely absent from the list. Her adoptive father Gulool Ja Ja and brother Koana both earned pedestals, but she remains one of FFXIV’s most surprisingly divisive lead characters, clearly regardless of region. Sphene, who made the list as well, can be argued as a mirror character of Wuk Lamat in many ways, but still, the results speak for themselves.
