As a movie critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, having witnessed the evolution of Star Trek from its humble beginnings to the cinematic spectacle it is today, I must say that “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” has truly outdone itself in its latest season. The cast and crew’s appearance at Comic-Con 2024 was nothing short of electrifying, leaving fans on the edge of their seats with anticipation for what’s to come.
Beam me up, Scotty.
At the 2024 Comic-Con event, the “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” cast made a visit to EbMaster’s Studio, which was hosted by Google TV, to share insights about their highly praised Paramount+ series that has been receiving critical acclaim.
As a passionate fan, I had the thrill of being among those who got a sneak peek into the exciting plans for the third season of Star Trek: Discovery, courtesy of the showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, alongside Rebecca Romjin (Una Chin-Riley) and Ethan Peck (Spock). They shared some tantalizing insights about the genres they’re planning to explore and offered intriguing hints about resolving the cliffhanger ending from Season 2.
“As ardent fans of ‘Star Trek’, I’ve been brainstorming numerous ways this iconic series could explore new territories in genre. We’re venturing into uncharted waters, pushing the boundaries of what has been done before when it comes to sci-fi. While we’ll maintain the essence of its classic structure and regular moral lessons, I assure you that we’re also eager to bring something fresh and exciting. So, spread your wings with us and join this thrilling journey!”
Laughingly, Peck remarked that he felt no need for job concerns until it dawned on him that most of the cast would transform into Vulcans – an alien race known for their logical and rational behavior, with minimal emotional involvement – in Season 3.
As a devoted movie buff, it wasn’t until that point that job stability became a concern. Seeing my long-time colleagues transformed into Vulcans left me quite stunned, given our close bond from working together for numerous seasons. Yet, there was a certain charm to it, witnessing them in Vulcan disguise. It evoked an unexpected and surprising feeling of familiarity, as if I were among family, because I’ve spent most of my time on the show portraying a Vulcan character.
Regarding queries about the unresolved cliffhanger in Season 2 and whether Season 3 would provide answers about the Enterprise’s failed rescue mission aimed at saving a planet of human colonists from the malevolent Gorn, Alonso Meyers stated they were endeavoring to create an experience that was “typical of Star Trek.”
“Whenever you return for the second half of a two-part story, it’s usually labeled as ‘The Conclusion Of’. So, when we get to season three, I guarantee that you will see ‘The Conclusion Of’.”
To delve deeper into the preferences of our beloved “Star Trek” cast and crew, I’d encourage you to catch the entire interview available above. You’ll discover their must-watch lists and uncover which episode from this iconic series holds a special place in their hearts.
