Supernatural Horror ‘The Shade’ Starring Chris Galust and Laura Benanti Acquired by Level 33 for North America (EXCLUSIVE)

As a movie enthusiast with a keen interest in indie films that tackle complex themes, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of “The Shade”. Having personally struggled with mental health issues and understanding the dynamics of family trauma, this film promises to resonate deeply with me. The combination of supernatural horror and real-life struggles makes for a unique blend that I can’t wait to experience on the big screen.

Entertainment company Level 33 has obtained distribution rights in North America for the supernatural horror movie titled “The Shade.” This film features Chris Galust, known for his roles in “Give Me Liberty” and “Mending the Line,” as well as Tony Award-winning actress Laura Benanti, who has been seen in “Tick, Tick… Boom!” and “No Hard Feelings.”

As a cinephile who has spent countless hours watching movies from various genres, I must say that the anticipation for the upcoming indie thriller is palpable. Having grown up in a household where films were a constant source of entertainment and inspiration, I can confidently assert that this fall, I’ll be eagerly awaiting its theatrical release on numerous screens across the U.S. and Canada. The digital platform rollout will only serve to amplify my excitement, as I’m always keen to explore new platforms for discovering captivating stories. With a rich history of indie films delivering unique perspectives and thought-provoking narratives, I have high hopes for this one.

In his first attempt as a feature film director, Tyler Chipman pens the screenplay for “The Shade.” The production of this movie falls under the wing of David Purdy, working with Red King Cinema.

The movie delves into topics of mental wellness, family relationships, and inherited emotional wounds. It portrays Ryan Beckman, a 20-year-old, as he deals with the recent demise of his father. Amidst trying to help his mother Renee (Benanti) and younger sibling James (Sam Duncan), Ryan faces an unsettling influence that seems to afflict his elder brother Jason (Dylan McTee), who has returned home unexpectedly from college athletics.

The agreement regarding distribution was worked out between Purdy and Andreas Olavarria, who serves as both president and CEO of Level 33, on behalf of the filmmakers.

Purdy stated: “From the beginning, Red King has been about telling stories truthfully, no matter how intricate the themes. We constantly seek innovative methods to merge genres and shed light on significant issues. We believe ‘The Shade’ is an ideal movie to introduce our unique cinematic approach to audiences worldwide.”

Olavarria expressed: “We’re absolutely eager about the prospect of presenting ‘The Shade,’ a unique, pulse-pounding tale in storytelling within the genre, both in cinemas and digital platforms all across North America. Red King is an impressive new contender in the independent horror industry, and we can’t wait to collaborate with their team to deliver this exceptional movie to viewers this autumn.”

Located in Los Angeles, Level 33 Entertainment specializes in amplifying unique perspectives within independent cinema. They provide distribution on multiple platforms such as cinemas, home video, and streaming services. Notably, they’ve just obtained “East Bay,” a witty dark comedy featuring Constance Wu, who gained fame from shows like “Fresh Off the Boat” and “Crazy Rich Asians.”
