Pickmon, a new game on Steam, combines the fun of collecting creatures like in Pokémon with the survival and crafting elements found in games like Palworld.
The game’s store page says it was developed by PocketGame and published by NetworkGo. It’s set in a world populated by creatures called Pickmon that players can collect.
One developer has no other games listed on Steam, but NetworkGo released Hainya World in 2023. That game clearly drew inspiration from popular titles like MapleStory and Minecraft.
Pickmon combines creature collecting with open-world survival
According to Pikmon’s Steam page, players explore a large continent populated by creatures, which can be captured using special cards and then used in combat while traveling across the game’s world.
As a fan, I’m really excited about the game’s locations! You’ll explore all sorts of places – dense jungles, scorching deserts, frozen tundras, and even active volcanoes. The story is awesome too – you’re basically trying to figure out the mysteries of a lost civilization while also stopping this shady organization that’s causing trouble in the area.
In addition to collecting creatures, players can also gather materials, build houses and farms, and create automated factories. These factories make weapons, tools, and everything else needed to stay alive.
If this sounds like a mix of games like Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Palworld, you’re right to think that. Early looks at the game show designs clearly inspired by characters like Pikachu and Link from The Legend of Zelda, and one even resembles Roadhog from Overwatch.
Given Nintendo’s history of protecting its intellectual property – they even took action against Palworld due to its resemblance to Pokemon – it will be worth watching to see if they decide to sue this new competitor.
Pickmon does not yet have a release date.
