20 Classic PC Games Available on Mobile in 2024

Table of Contents

As a seasoned gamer who grew up in the golden era of PC gaming, I can wholeheartedly endorse this list of classic games now available on smartphones. It’s like stepping back into my childhood, only this time without the need for a bulky desktop and a dial-up connection!

As someone who has been gaming since the 90s, I can attest to the fact that mobile games have often been dismissed as shallow and mindless due to their reliance on grind, pay-to-win mechanics, and microtransactions. However, I believe that this stereotype is unfair and outdated. Today’s smartphones are powerful enough to handle classic games from my childhood, which means that there’s no reason we can’t enjoy the same nostalgic experiences on our phones.

As a nostalgic gamer, I can’t help but reminisce about the good old days when video games were simply magical. Back then, there were no complaints or criticisms; they were just pure joy. Given this fond memory, why not relive those moments by enjoying classic, timeless gaming experiences on your smartphone?

2024 UPDATE

As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed an exciting update! Two fresh entries have been added to the rankings, nestled snugly at the lower end. It seems our favorite gaming enthusiast, Mateusz “rassi” Lugowik, has taken it upon himself to adjust the prices of some titles in our beloved collection.

PRICE AND QUALITY

We evaluated game titles based on their touch-screen playability and overall mobile port quality. Remember, many of these games may require purchase, up to around a dozen dollars in certain cases, from Google Play. This is understandable since most of these games were developed during an era when microtransactions weren’t as prevalent as they are today.

Hey there fellow game enthusiast! If by chance there are any classic titles that spark nostalgia and deserve a mention, feel free to share them in the comments below. It could be just what someone needs to rekindle their love for gaming, right on their mobile device.

Transport Tycoon Deluxe (OpenTTD)

  1. Price: Free
  2. In a nutshell: A classic economic strategy, in which we deal with the transport of passengers and various kinds of goods

The heyday of economic strategy games, often referred to as “tycoons,” is now a thing of the past. Personally, I spent a considerable amount of time on RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, but I also vividly recall Transport Tycoon Deluxe from 1995. As the name implies, we take on the role of an entrepreneur in the transport sector, building road, rail, sea, and air connections. Our main goal is to efficiently manage these lines to maximize our company’s revenue through the goods delivered and passenger transportation.

Initially, it might appear that such a game idea wouldn’t attract much attention. Yet, in Transport Tycoon, we were always vying with other companies, and in the Deluxe edition, we could even purchase shares of our competitors on the stock exchange, ensuring there was never a dull moment. Remarkably, due to a dedicated fan group, the game underwent refinement and was reintroduced as OpenTTD on personal computers, subsequently making its way onto smartphones as well.

As an enthusiast, I’ve been closely following the progress of this project, and I must say, the open version has surpassed my expectations in terms of polish and content. In comparison to the Transport Tycoon available on Google Play, it feels more refined and packed with richer content.

  1. You can find OpenTTD on Google Play

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Bethesda launched The Elder Scrolls: Blades exclusively for mobile devices, but if you’re yearning for the classic Morrowind experience, you can find a mobile adaptation of it online. Known as Morrowind OpenMW, this version is actually a port of a fan project that seeks to modernize The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind by transferring it onto a brand-new engine.

As a fellow gamer, I gotta tell ya, if you’re thinking about playing Morrowind on Android, consider it more of a curiosity than a solid gaming experience. The controls are lackluster and the game can be quite unstable, which might discourage many players. But hey, if you’ve got that stubborn streak and just gotta give it a go on your mobile device, well, who am I to stop ya?
