Priest gets left behind in Dungeonborne balance patch

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating the vast landscapes of virtual worlds, I can’t help but feel disheartened by the plight of the Priest class in Dungeonborne. This game has captured my attention with its captivating graphics and immersive storyline, but it’s the classes that truly make or break a game for me, and right now, the Priest is teetering on the brink of irrelevance.

The creators of Dungeonborne regularly release updates to address bugs and tweak weapon capabilities and character classes to maintain game equilibrium. However, the imbalance in the Priest class calls for significant modifications that are currently lacking.

In the July 29 update for Dungeonborne, improvements were made to address network instability on Asian servers and adjust the Druid, Death Knight, Fighter, and Cryomancer classes. The Druid’s mobility and scouting skills have been decreased but their Panther Form damage has been increased. The Fighter and Death Knight received buffs: the Fighter now has shorter E skill cooldowns and the Death Knight’s Q skills have a 15% damage reduction effect. However, changes to the Priest class were overlooked in this update.

The problems with Priest in Dungeonborne

I’ve spent countless hours playing and evaluating Dungeonborne’s eight classes, but the Priest presents the most challenge for me. In my experience, few players opt for this class in team configurations, and I’ve rarely encountered one personally in solo games. The root of the problem lies in their low health and defense. Their vulnerability makes them an easy target for any class in the game. Mages can pick them off from a distance with spells, melee fighters can deal significant damage with their attacks, and even Rogues can easily paralyze and kill an unprepared Priest.

1. In this update, the Priest’s shortcomings are more pronounced compared to the benefits bestowed upon other classes. For instance, the Druid’s enhanced Panther Form damage makes it difficult for the Priest to either outperform or outheal the Druid, thus giving the Druid an upper hand. Similarly, the movement bonuses of both the Death Knight and the Fighter boost their chances against the Priest. However, the Cryomancer’s alterations were designed to even out the class’ defensive abilities, rather than focusing solely on offense.

1) In terms of balance, the Priest character’s low health and defense could be compensated if they had a powerful attack or useful spells. Unfortunately, Priests don’t deal enough damage to fend off adversaries, and their spells offer limited assistance. They can’t wield a shield for self-defense; instead, they rely on their Guard E ability as a protective measure. Moreover, their healing spells do not provide sufficient health restoration compared to bandages or potions when playing alone. However, in a team setting, they can offer some assistance, albeit requiring significant focus from teammates to keep them alive and secure. If an enemy manages to bypass your teammates, particularly Rogues, you could be quickly defeated before your team realizes the threat.

1. Below, you’ll find a slideshow demonstrating the healing power of the Cleanse Q ability for the Priest class. The initial slide displays my starting mana and health as a novice Priest casting Cleanse. Following that, you’ll see how much mana Cleanse consumes and its charging duration. Lastly, the final slide reveals the amount of health the spell boosted when fully charged.

1. Quite frequently, there won’t be enough time during combat to fully charge a spell. Moreover, players are restricted from carrying out other actions while casting a spell. Consequently, you become extremely vulnerable to damage and unable to retaliate until the spell is either canceled or completed. This issue can be mitigated when fighting monsters, but opponent players will quickly exploit this vulnerability.

Dungeonborne class balance data shows Priest needs buffs

1. It’s not only my opinion that the Priest class requires a boost; the patch notes data table underscores this sentiment, demonstrating how players struggle to find the Priest playable. Between July 27 and July 28, pick and extraction rates were computed for every Dungeonborne class at level 20. All other classes have a minimum selection rate of 10%, with the Rogue being chosen most frequently (19.94%). However, the Priest is chosen less than any other class at an all-time low of 1.83%.

1. As improvements are made to other character classes over time, there’s a possibility that the stats for those classes may become less favorable. In light of this, it’s crucial to consider strategies for balancing the Priest class during upcoming updates.

Potential fixes for the Dungeonborne Priest class

These adjustments certainly aren’t the ultimate answer for a well-rounded Priest class, but they do provide an excellent starting point when aiming to enhance the Priest as a more engaging game character.

  • Buff the healing done by Cleanse and Divine Light.
  • Increase the healing bonus of the Faith stat.
  • Allow the Priest to carry a shield alongside their mace.
  • Lessen the charge time for Cleanse and make it heal over time instead of all at once.

1. I’m pondering whether these possible adjustments are essential for the Priest character to thrive without being omnipotent. Here’s hoping that the developers are contemplating this very question and that improvements for the Priest class, currently in development, will be unveiled shortly. If not, there’s a chance it might gradually become less popular compared to the other seven classes due to their strength.
