Canal+ Launches Branded Streaming Service in Hungary in Partnership With 4iG Group

As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for international cinema, I am thrilled to hear about Canal+ expanding its reach into Hungary. Having grown up watching European films and following the careers of talented actors like Matthias Schoenaerts, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement for the diverse content that will now be available in Hungary through Canal+.

European television provider Canal+ has introduced a labeled streaming platform in Hungary as part of its expanding global rollout, which now includes countries like Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and more recently, the Netherlands.

The Hungarian launch is in partnership with local pay TV operator 4iG Group.

Jacques du Puy, the CEO of Canal+ International, expressed his delight over our new service launch in Hungary. This move aligns with our goal to modernize our offerings and boost our presence in Europe. The Hungarian market holds great potential for streaming services, and Canal+ is eager to make a notable impact there. 4iG will be an essential collaborator in bringing this venture to fruition.

Since the year 2021, Canal+ content has been accessible in Hungary via the platform Direct One. Previously, this service was known as UPC Direct.

Under the terms of the Canal+ deal, 155,000 Direct One subscribers will be transferred to Digi, which is 4iG’s service, beginning next year.

Peter Fekete, CEO of 4iG Group, expressed: “Gaining Direct One’s satellite customer base is a fantastic chance to expand our satellite customer base in Hungary. With this deal, 4iG Group will enhance its dominance in Hungary’s satellite TV industry. By acquiring Direct One, we will provide better quality and more extensive services to their previous customers, utilizing our diverse telecommunications offerings within the group.”

In addition to Canal+’s traditional TV offerings, the Hungarian platform will provide access to the company’s collection of films and shows. This includes critically acclaimed series like “Django,” featuring Matthias Schoenaerts (“Rust and Bone,” “Bullhead”). By 2025, a specific app for Canal+ will be available in Hungary.
