The Real Housewives of New Jersey Recap: Like a House on Fire

As a longtime fan of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, I’ve seen it all – from the drama-filled relationships and scandals to the petty feuds and downright crazy antics of the women on the show. But nothing quite compares to the shenanigans of Teresa Giudice and Margaret Josephs.

On “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” the hidden meanings have become overt. The subtle symbolism that was once implied is now out in the open, just like Teresa’s belly in a Sizzle Tans ad. Dolores, a woman from Paterson who acts as peacemaker and is dating an Irishman, manages to bring the ladies together for a weekend getaway in the Berkshires to hash out their disputes. The celebration of Festivus came early this year! She finds a suitable house with enough bedrooms and a guest house where Teresa and Jen Aydin can stay since they seem to be so misinformed that their ignorance requires its own living quarters. But just as they’re about to leave, the house unexpectedly goes up in flames, leaving it “down to the studs,” as Dolores puts it.

As a seasoned resident of New Jersey and avid fan of the Real Housewives franchise, I can’t help but chuckle at the quirky miscommunications that often occur between the ladies. In this particular passage, Teresa’s insistence on calling an omen a “gumbaya” or “om” is a classic example of the unique way words can evolve in our communities.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I must admit that even though the current production boasts Danielle’s daughter’s dramatic kitchen outburst with the word “boner,” it doesn’t diminish the fact that there are still layers of complexity hidden beneath, leaving numerous enigmas unresolved. The plot could be shrouded in such a thick veil of these women’s intricate schemes that not only may we struggle to grasp its essence, but also lose interest in trying.

The pivotal moment of the episode unfolds when Margaret and Jen Fessler have a lunch meeting with the woman from the Blind Melon music video, affectionately named “Bee Girl.” During their conversation, Jen mentions that Teresa has invited her to her home for a discussion with her lawyer, James Leonard. Teresa intends for them to learn the truth about Margaret directly from the source. However, it turns out that James Leonard is not involved in the case in any way. Instead of getting information straight from the horse, we are being fed Teresa’s message through her lawyer.

When Margaret discovers this news, she quickly phones Dolores and Jennifer during their lunch break. I’ve never encountered a similar situation, and I can’t fathom what etiquette expert Miss Manners would suggest in such circumstances. It seems impolite to make FaceTime calls while someone is casually enjoying a chocolate milkshake and being disregarded. The thoughtless and stingy might view Margaret’s actions as her scrambling before getting exposed. However, we must consider Margaret’s perspective. She believes it’s unacceptable for Teresa to organize an event solely so people could gossip about her. Although the women on these shows gossip excessively, I can’t recall an event specifically designed for this purpose. Marge is valid in her stance: If my friends attended a “We Hate Brian Moylan” party, they would no longer be my friends.

Prior to Teresa’s major event, there were heated gatherings at different venues among the feuding men. Joe Gorga hosted Joe Benigno, Frank Catania, and John Fuda for an evening filled with steaks, poker, and strong drinks straight from the bone. In contrast, Luis gathered his father, also named Luis, his son, and Paulia Catania (not her real name), as well as Bill Aydin, for a simple salad. Nate Cabral and Evan Goldschneider wisely avoided choosing sides and instead opted to work out together at the gym, followed by an extended stay in the steam room.

At the Real Housewives Institute, we strongly favor either Team Melissa or Team They All Suck. However, let’s face it, Joe Gorga throws superior guys’ nights out. Despite John Fuda having an allergic reaction to something, possibly the synthetic fibers in his pajamas as a jab at Luis, and despite Joe G. urinating in front of everyone during a medical emergency, and even with the police enjoying their steaks, it remains more enjoyable than Luis’s gatherings.

I’ve come across many people in my life, but none quite like Joe and Luis. Joe is the kind of guy who wears his flaws on his sleeve. He may drink too much, exhibit toxic masculinity, and have a sharp tongue, but that’s just who he is. His authenticity is raw and unfiltered, and whether you admire or despise him, there’s no denying the strength of his presence.

Luis invites the guys over and leads them to his personal sanctuary, a term that made Bill Aydin’s balls recoil all the way to his throat. He proudly displays his professional podcasting setup, as if determined to emulate successful podcasters like Joe Rogan, albeit with worse hair and sunburn. Then, he asks them to record heartfelt messages for their partners, filled with hollow expressions of love. The entire scene feels contrived and insincere, just like Teresa’s staged encounter with the lawyer. Luis appears to be presenting a polished image of his life, hiding imperfections behind a facade. He is much like an infomercial salesman peddling a faulty product that no one will ever buy, except in this case, the product being sold is Luis himself.

At last, everyone convenes at Teresa’s house to discuss the matter with her lawyer. James Leonard gathers Gia, Dolores, Jackie, Danielle, and Jen Aydin, and expresses his intent to share information about Teresa’s recent experiences. However, this is not an accurate depiction of events. “Going through” implies undergoing hardships caused by uncontrollable circumstances, such as a death, illness, or accident. In contrast, Teresa and Luis are dealing with repercussions of their own actions. James discloses that there’s someone in Luis’s past whom he can’t mention due to legal gag orders, causing problems for Luis even before he met Teresa. It seems they had a contentious history marked by lawsuits against each other. The situation appears messy.

In 2021, James Leonard, Esquire, shared that Margaret received unwanted advances from her ex-partner and was summoned to court to discuss her connection. However, she declined to testify. Later, Teresa warned everyone about an upcoming shocking disclosure. According to James, Marge functioned as a go-between for the ex and the show, using one instance as evidence: a video revealing Luis behaving erratically at one of his retreats. Instead of being taken aback, the women reacted with the NeNe Leakes “Okay” meme.

Teresa’s discovery isn’t the definitive proof that Margaret has claimed it to be. For years, Teresa has accused Margaret of having information about Luis from his ex, but Margaret has consistently denied this. However, we don’t have enough details about their conversations or what information Margaret received. It seems that Teresa and Jen uncovered more about Luis through John Fuda’s contentious ex than we’ve ever heard from Margaret. The video that caused the controversy was first brought up on Reddit, and Margaret asked Luis to address it publicly. She didn’t necessarily share its existence with everyone; she just pointed out something that was already public knowledge. All the negative information about Luis – the videos, angry exes, and business lawsuits – have been made public, and Margaret hasn’t shared any private details about him.

As someone who has closely followed the Real Housewives of New Jersey for years, I’ve come to understand that the dynamics among these women are complex and often involve tactics of manipulation and deceit. From my perspective, it seems Marge has found herself in a sticky situation with Luis’s ex-girlfriend.

Jerz sets himself apart from other Housewives through his tactics centered around former friends and lovers, lawsuits, gag orders, and unverified rumors spread by unknown sources with biases. Topics include Larsa Pippen’s allegation about Guerdy Abraira’s cancer, Kyle Richards’ lesbian relationship, and Jenn Pedranti’s financial struggles. However, delving into the intricacies of a dismissed lawsuit involving Marge and Luis’ ex, as reported by Teresa’s lawyer, who is also unreliable, leads us nowhere productive or insightful.

In the depths of despair, beneath Ursula the Sea Witch’s soul-losing worm farm, Teresa’s doorbell rang unexpectedly. The visitor brought a funeral arrangement with a card bearing the message, “Dear Teresa and James, Our condolences for the loss of your dignity. Love, Marge.” Danielle summed up my feelings perfectly with her exclamation, “This is the most audacious stunt I’ve ever witnessed!” Indeed, this was the essence of Housewives, filled with pettiness and drama, orchestrated for the camera. I may not approve, but I can’t deny my appreciation for a well-executed prank. And if Marge is indeed behind this, then I don’t care who she’s been communicating with – even if it’s Satan himself. However, we know that Margaret hasn’t been in the same room as Teresa all season long.
