Spencer Ela Joins Miramax’s Motion Picture Group as Senior Vice President (EXCLUSIVE)

As a devoted follower of the film industry, I am absolutely ecstatic about the latest addition to Miramax’s Motion Picture Group: Spencer Ela! His impressive resume speaks for itself, having worked closely with industry heavyweights like Peter Safran and John Rickard at The Safran Company. Not only did he co-produce Amazon Studios’ upcoming action thriller “Heads of State,” but he also oversaw the development and production of DC’s “Blue Beetle.” These projects are just a testament to Ela’s impeccable taste and knack for identifying promising stories.

Spencer Ela has joined Miramax’s Motion Picture Group as a senior vice president.

At Miramax, Ela joined the team through The Safran Company. During her time there, she worked under Peter Safran, Co-Chair of DC Entertainment, and producer John Rickard. While at The Safran Company, Ela collaborated on Amazon Studios’ upcoming action thriller “Heads of State.” This project boasts an impressive cast including John Cena, Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra, and Jack Quaid, and was helmed by director Ilya Naishuller. Furthermore, Ela managed the production and development of DC’s “Blue Beetle,” featuring Xolo Maridueña in the lead role and directed by Angel Manuel Soto.

Ela begins working at Miramax not long after the company experiences a significant shift in management, with Jonathan Glickman becoming CEO in April following Bill Block’s departure. Shortly after assuming his new role, Glickman appoints Becky Sloviter, an experienced producer and executive, as president of Miramax’s Film Division.

As a film enthusiast, I’m over the moon to announce that Spencer is joining our growing Motion Picture Group at Miramax. His addition is not just exciting but essential in creating an innovative lineup of commercial and theatrical films for our company. His passion for storytelling, extensive network of filmmaker connections, and unwavering work ethic are truly remarkable. Jon and I are thrilled beyond words to have him on board with us.

Ela expressed her great pleasure and excitement in becoming a part of Jon, Becky, and Miramax’s talented team. She is eager to contribute to the ongoing legacy of producing compelling stories that resonate with global audiences. With Becky at the helm, she is anticipating collaborating on projects that will entice viewers to gather for an immersive cinematic experience. In essence, Ela aims to help Miramax produce narratives that ignite excitement and make people yearn for the shared joy of watching a movie in a theater.

Before joining The Safran Company, Ela was an executive at STX Films. Ela began his feature career under the guidance of manager and producer Richard Arlook prior to a stint at Untitled Entertainment. Ela’s background also includes a role as a segment producer on NBC’s “The Voice.”
