As a seasoned movie critic with a deep appreciation for international cinema, I am thrilled to share my thoughts on SkyShowtime’s latest original series, “Shades,” currently in production in Spain. With a rich cast of Spanish acting talents, this psychological thriller is already making waves in the industry.
Production has begun on “Shades” (or “Matices”), SkyShowtime’s newest original series produced in Spain. This project is a collaboration between Secouya Studies and Stellarmedia. The showboasts an esteemed Spanish cast, known internationally for their roles in popular Spanish shows and films.
I’m thrilled to share that the latest show features an impressive lineup of talented actors. Maxi Iglesias, who charmed us in “Valeria,” joins the cast. So does Enrique Arce, known for his memorable role in “Money Heist.” Hovik Keuchkerian adds depth with his performance in “Reina Roja.” And Juana Acosta graces our screens once again after her captivating portrayal in “La templanza.”
Additionally appearing are Fariba Sheikhan (known for “The Unit”), Miriam Giovanelli (recognized in “Nacho”), Eusebio Poncela (“Merlí. Dare to Know”), Raúl Prieto (“The Snow Girl”), Luis Tosar (“Cell 211”), and Elsa Pataky (famous for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”).
Starting in June, SkyShowtime Originals will introduce their second locally produced series in Spain, titled “Mamen Mayo.” Following this, they are also producing a comedy/drama family show in collaboration with Nostromo Pictures.
In a lighter take on psychological thrillers akin to the ensemble mystery series like “Knives Out,” such as “Shades,” the story opens with a renowned and charming psychiatrist inviting six of his most challenging patients to a secluded vineyard for what appears to be their final therapy sessions. Despite dealing with complex and hard-to-treat cases, this doctor’s innovative approach has yielded impressive results.
After an uncommon ritual tasting, an unexpected twist unfolds with a significant conclusion. Subsequently, the entrance of an insightful police lieutenant leads to the revelation of the patients’ past traumas.
“Shades” is a collaboration between Secuoya Studios and Stellarmedia, produced in partnership with SkyShowtime. Sergio Cánovas from Stellarmedia helms the director’s chair for this project, also acting as its creator and executive producer alongside Javier Naya, Alex Meriweather, and María García-Castrillón.
